If you use mutt, this is useful:

set sort = "threads" set sort_aux = "date-received" set strict_threads

Then the user's clock setting doesn't matter; the "From " line date is used instead.

You might not want the last one, since many stupid MUA's these days don't maintain threads when replying. If you don't use strict_threads, it will use subject line matching to group messages into threads.
