Free Stuff

I want to reduce the amount of stuff in my apartment, so I have free stuff to give away: 1) Sun Sparc IPX 2) Sun monitor (16" I think ... But it's huge) 3) Full tower PC case ... No power supply 4) Compaq 286 Laptop ... It works! 5) Super Nintendo (controllers, games, etc) 6) Pentium 233 + motherboard I'll bring all of it to the meeting, if you want something email me. If lots of people want any of those items, I'll ask Andy to raffle them off. -Marc

REMINDER: Meeting Wed, Jan 16th

Hi everybody, This is a friendly reminder about the upcoming WLUG meeting, to be held on Wednesday, January 16th, 2002, on the WPI campus in Worcester, MA. For this meeting, please note that we will be in a **DIFFERENT LOCATION**. The meeting will be in Perreault Hall in a building called Fuller Labs (yes, still on the WPI campus). To get directions, click the yellow "WLUG meetings" picture on the top of the WLUG website, and then click "directions". It is in the building next to the Gordon Library. Taking place at this meeting will be the greatly anticipated "Linux Distribution Bakeoff". Representing several different distributions will be: Doug Waud - SuSE 7.2 Tim Keller - Mandrake 8.1 Adam Keck - Debian (Stable) This meeting is being held to discuss distribution specific features. The aforementioned folks profess some level of expertise with their particular distribution and will extol us with the virtues of same. I'm sure it'll be a fun and informative meeting. (Should I have been in sales instead of engineering?! Nah, nobody would buy anything from a long haired guy in a suit...). At this meeting we will also discuss the upcoming WLUG Install Fest, to be held on Saturday, February 9th, 2002 at Stratus Computer in Maynard, MA. This will be our third annual install fest at this location, and each has been well attended in the past by both installees and WLUG members. If you are interested in attending, please send e-mail to Tim Keller (tim.keller(a)stratus.com). Lurkers and voyeurs are also welcome to watch and learn. Be sure to tell your non-Linux friends! Lunch will be served, and refreshments will be available. Safety mitts will be made available to prevent inadvertant plug pulling of powered computers (darn, Doug's not coming). There will also be a few items available for raffle at the install fest. I suspect that I can scrounge up a few items for raffle at the WLUG meeting as well. After the meeting, we'll make our monthly pilgrimage to the Boynton Restaurant for pizza and beer. WLUG, I have some stuff that is looking for a new home. If you're interested in it, I can bring it to the January WLUG meeting or arrange shipping... :) Here's what I've got: o For whoever is interested: Cabletron MRX-2 10Base-T hub This beast has 12 10Mb ports, but port 6 is bad. Gravis Ultrasound Max sound card This is a 16-bit card. I cannot find the CD for it. VESA Local Bus motherboard Includes a P90 CPU Has 2 VLB slots, 4 16-bit slots, 2 8-bit slots. RAM (I forget if this has 32MB or 64MB) Diamond Viper VLB video card VLB I/O card This should go with the motherboard, since the motherboard dates back to just before the I/O stuff was built-in. o For sale or trade: DSL Modem WESTELL ADSL modem, model # 36R515. Has power cable, Ethernet cable, and instructions. o What I am looking for: one PCMCIA ethernet network interface. 10Mb minimum, but I certainly wouldn't turn down a 10/100... :) The stuff I have is available as-is. The motherboard, video, sound card and I/O card are known-working as of March 2001. The DSL modem is something my mother bought, decided she didn't want, so she passed it to me. I can't get DSL where I live, so I thought maybe someone else could use it. I have no way of knowing if it works. If anyone is interested in this stuff, I could bring it to a WLUG meeting.
