Hi gang, Thanks for the additional info. I'll take a look at this info shortly. I've also found some information in "Grokking the GIMP" with regard to how to use some features of the GIMP to enhance scanned images. This was most helpful when I discovered that scanning images from a magazine or calendar (printed material) caused a speckling effect to appear in the resulting image. The GIMP has a despeckling filter that removes this rather well in many cases. This entire topic has me wondering if a detailed examination of the features of the GIMP might be a good discussion for a future meeting. I am writing this on a Toshiba Tecra 8000. I have used it since Suse 7.2 but it is now 8.1. APM worked correctly with 8.0 but not with 8.1 so I will be reinstalling it with 8.0. looking forward to the 15th!

Hi gang, I'm looking forward to the 15th of January so I can finally say good-bye to Brother Bill on my iPAQ. I got a couple of questions..... Has anyone used the perl-script that syncs the ipaq and evolution? Other then the notorious, "Don't run this while Evolution is open" are there any other problems? Which CF wireless nics work with linux on the iPAQ. I'm seriously thinking that I'm going to get the cf-plus expansion pack and a wireless nic for my iPAQ (linux's true strength is networking, right?). So which one's work? And, sadly, how easy is it to reverse the process? On the off-chance that I can't stand OPIE as a working environment. I've read the howto, how hard is it in "real life." It might be fun to invite some of the people from the compaq lab to the meeting if anyone who worked on ipaq linux is based in the Worcester area.... The 15% probably means little since the computer has been sitting in its case inactive since the last WLUG meeting. doug PS while drafting this email the % came up to 21 so it seems the xapm is working as expected.

zaurus

Hi gang, Well, I'm thinking about just going out and getting a zaurus for myself, I've seem them for around $330 as some places. Should I do this, or just convert my iPAQ as I planned? There are some features of the iPAQ that I like (like inviting attendees to meetings), but getting some sync-ability with Linux is just over the top for me.... Anyone get zaurus to sync with Evolution? Wes

Hi everybody, I have no problems with folks bringing old equipment to WLUG meetings for raffle, trade, give away, sale, or whatever. We've done it before and it has worked out just fine. Some old stuff hanging around that I'm giving away too

FYI: I've got a few PC's laying around at home that I'd like to donate to the WLUG raffle or anyone else who thinks they can use one. These are by no means powerful machines, but could probably be used as a firewall or low end mail server. 2 - HP Vectra (I think XM's) Pentium 100 64 mb of memory sound, graphics, NIC one has a hard drive (1GB I think) 4x cd-rom ?? ** These used to be business desktops, but were retired a few years ago. 1 - Compaq Presario mini tower Pentium 75 64 mb of memory sound, graphics, NIC 850MB or 1GB hard drive 8x cd-rom ?? 13 or 14" color monitor All of these at one time or another were going to be re-built by me and donated to schools in my area, but work and my family took priority. I also have some programming and other computer related books that are anyone's for the taking as well. If anyone is interested, I'll can email more specific information after I invertory the stuff. If this sounds like some stuff that can be raffled off at the January meeting, I'd be willing to bring it all down. Matthew
