Yes food and drink are allowed. The class room has lots of plugs along the walls, although bringing out some extra power strips can also happen. We support back to Cambrian era, so Mezozoic is no problem ;). Precambrian however you are going to need to bring your own microscope. These questions may be more directed at Tim, or Kevin (if he gets these emails): Does Technopia allow food and drink? Would rooms for any future WLUG meetings there have access to AC outlets for laptops with Mesozoic age batteries that won't hold a charge? Ron

Hello, Re: Red Hat and IBM Several weeks ago IBM and Red Hat announced a change to their business licenses for RHEL. Several pundits wrote their opinions about these changes. I carefully read most of them, but I felt some concepts were missing. So I took my time and wrote my thoughts on it. I wrote to you in the middle of writing this article that I would share it with you when it was finished. I will warn you that the article is long. Very long. It is not the article of the TicTok generation, or even the Instagram generation. It is not an article for the faint of heart, but I think it does give a lot of insight into the development of software as an industry, binary-only code and why it happened, Open Source and Free Software. Ron, I hope you find the videos helpful! I think they summarize the issue better than I ever could. Jon, I look forward to seeing your write-up on this issue! I think a lot of the responses I've seen so far are understandable -- Red Hat has an image of being a pioneer in open source development, and closing up source code publication to anyone who isn't a customer is unprecedented and seemingly comes in direct conflict with Red Hat's goals. This is such a controversial development that there's an ongoing Wikipedia discussion on whether RHEL is even considered open-source or is violating the GPL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux#RfC_about_the_s… That being said, I think the community at large may be having a knee-jerk reaction to this news, which isn't helped at all by Red Hat's fairly poor PR handling. We might just need time to come to an understanding. Hi, I have been writing up a response to this that goes much deeper into the discussion than most articles I have read have done. Because I have been busy doing other things (Board Chair of the Linux Professional Institute, defending the Linux Trademark AGAIN, doing virtual presentations and preparing for a long trip to Latin America) I have not had time to finish it, but I should be able to finish it this weekend. I have given drafts to other LPI board members, many of whom have been in the FOSS space almost as long as I have and some have been in the computer space....no...few people have been in that space as long as I have. So far the comments have been good, some saying it was "great". When it is finished I will post it to the LPI blog (free for everyone to read) and let you guys know. I would also be happy to talk about it in great depth at a WLUG meeting. Spoiler Alert: There is no evil here, and out of it could come great good. Awesome meeting last night!

Hey Gang, We had an amazing meeting last night, I'd like to thank Kevin from Technocopia for providing us the space, we will be back!! We had a number of random interlopers just show up and the discussion quickly pivoted from keyboards to linux drivers and the unix philosophy. The conversation then shifted to analog control devices and a guy named Rick gave us all a great education on analog process and control technologies. Then to cap things off, a maker named Matt showed up with an iMac and asked if we could help him get Linux Mint installed, in classic WLUG fashion we jumped at the opportunity and in no time flat we got him sorted out. It turns out that machine is slightly too old to run DeVinci Resolve, but I believe it'll be a great machine for him to get some basic linux knowledge. I believe we've found a new space to hold meetings, it's going to get interesting and weird!
