Decades (199x-2010) before I found wlug/WPI/you!, I'd (rarely..road wimp, became too lazy,etc..) go to MIT/Cambridge for geek-meetings that a UNIX SysAdmin --> linux-lover might enjoy. I stopped attending their meetings decades ago, but I kept listening quietly to the "discuss" (primary email thread/list of BLU) that I think it morphed into: Boston Linux and Unix http://www.blu.org (trivia: "Announce" includes "Discuss" list, which I get in digest, so a dozen+week becomes sm handful per week. TMI,but see also http://www.blu.org/about_blu/ for a hint at BLU history + leaders. HEAR YE and cool/modern format(s): BLU Meetings, at least some like THIS WEEK's, allow you to --- ATTEND and be yourself? LIVE, with Jitsi, see below, or --- PEEP apparently live and/or later ? with YouTube Live Stream, also below. So this month/week's topic would be new-to-me! I think the mini-demo idea was a good way to go about it. It was offered to me last install-fest by my family and I were sick. As for this week, my wife and I are talking over my coming. I had promised her that she'd be able to go out with some friends that night in advance (cookie-swap) and while she insists that it's ok if I go to the wlug meeting instead I don't feel right reniging on that promise. So I might miss this AGAIN. ARRRRRGHHHH! Maybe this could be the January topic? I'd be interested to see anyone who's got a Zarus as well, how do you like it? I know I should just go to the site, but how was the last meeting? I was hoping to make this my first meeting but I ended up in a medical clinic with my 11 week old son instead (a 102.5 fever is NOT GOOD). He's doing well; I'm not. I'd like to come out, but I'd feel REALLY stupid coming to a BBQ for my first time; talk about bush league! I'm a Senior at WPI and spent the last two summers working on container technologies at Red Hat under the Project Atomic/OpenShift banners. If you all are interested, topics for discussion could be: - Containers 101: Introduction & Motivations - Container Technologies -- docker -- Open Containers Initiative -- LXC, rkt, and others - Container Implementation -- namespaces -- cgroups -- security implications, comparison to Virtual Machines - Containers in Production (Kubernetes, etc.) - Containers in Consumer Environments (Flatpak, Snappy, etc.) If there are any other container-related topics you'd like to hear about, please just let me know and I can work them in. I'm mostly familiar with the Docker/OCI & Kubernetes orchestration stack, so I won't be able to go into technical details about other systems, but can give an overview if someone else wants to get into the weeds about any other container systems. Hi Keith, I had figured you were being sarcastic in your prior e-mail. I'm not entirely sure you aren't now. I concluded that the meeting was on Thursday. At one point Tim indicated Wednesday, but corrected himself that it was Thursday in another email. Chuck also indicated Thursday in the most recent email, so the question seemed settled to me. I find email subject lines to be often misleading just like the titles of news articles. Subject lines always seem to get out of date as the conversion evolves. thanks!
