I'll be sure to have the necesary tarballs to make this work, or you can download them yourself if you wish. I'll bring a DVD or two and we can try it out. I had thought of doing this "live" like we did one other time. In case Doug can't make the meeting, having another laptop or two present might be interesting. Although the VideoLan client is interesting, I think the ability to stream the video over the net is pretty neat. Reminder, meeting tonight!

We've got a meeting tonight! Time: 7PM Date: March 16th, 2023 Location: WPI Student Center Chair's Room 129. Address: 100 Institute Road, Worcester MA. Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA Topic: Ventoy, docker stuff, printers, pi compute stuff, etc. I thought I'd show off Ventoy which is a multiboot usb that lets you run a whole pile of different distros. It's become yet another tool in my pocket when dealing with weird stuff. We can definitely talk about printers.. I've been deploying lots of Ubuntu 22.04 machines and I've had to delve into the fun that is cups.. I can definitely get on the HP hate bandwagon.. There's some scuttlebutt that Docker is talking about purging all the OSS images of users who don't pony up subscription money.. I'm sure we'll dive off into lots of topics as well. Pi compute boards, personal k8s clusters, etc. As usual snacks and refreshments will be provided and we'll do dinner afterwards and continue the conversation. Hope to see you there! REMINDER: Meeting Wed, May 15th

HI everybody, This is a reminder about the upcoming WLUG meeting to be held this Wednesday evening, May 15th, at 7:00 PM in Kinnicutt Hall on the WPI campus. At this meeting, Andy Stewart will give a short presentation about his recent experiences with PLIP (Parallel Line Internet Protocol). The Linux PLIP software allows the user to connect two computers together via their printer ports. A network is run between the parallel interfaces. If you ever wanted to build a cheap, quick (as in rapid setup), and dirty point-to-point network that actually functions, this is it. If two people would like to bring their laptops, I'll bring the cable and we can try a live demo. Be sure you have parport, parport_pc, and plip compiled as modules. My cable has male DB25 connectors. As I don't expect the PLIP presentation to be lengthy, if there are others who would like to do a quick presentation, please let me know. Afterwards, we'll visit the Boynton Restaurant for pizza and beer. All are invited to attend. See ya later! First WLUG meeting of the year!! January 8th 2026 @ 7PM Location: Technocopia!

Hey Everybody! This is our first WLUG meeting of the year! Date & Time: 1/8/26 @ 7PM Location: Technocopia, 44 Portland St. Worcester MA Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA Topic: Still figuring that out! Got ideas let me know. At a minimum we'll talk about what we want to talk about this year. Looking at the signal chat we can have a more thorough talk about BcacheFS vs OpenZFS vs. Btrfs. I can give people an update with my wife and her fun with Bazzite. I'm hoping I can get my hands on a couple pieces of identical laptop hardware and do a head to head performance test of CachyOS vs. some other distro to show off the greatness or lack thereof of the BORE (Burst-Oriented Response Enhancer) scheduler. We can talk about the Helium browser vs. Chromium vs. Chrome.. Lots to talk about. As usual we'll head out for dinner afterwards and we'll keep the conversation going!
