Awesome meeting last night!

by Tim Keller

Hey Gang, We had an amazing meeting last night, I'd like to thank Kevin from Technocopia for providing us the space, we will be back!! We had a number of random interlopers just show up and the discussion quickly pivoted from keyboards to linux drivers and the unix philosophy. The conversation then shifted to analog control devices and a guy named Rick gave us all a great education on analog process and control technologies. Then to cap things off, a maker named Matt showed up with an iMac and asked if we could help him get Linux Mint installed, in classic WLUG fashion we jumped at the opportunity and in no time flat we got him sorted out. It turns out that machine is slightly too old to run DeVinci Resolve, but I believe it'll be a great machine for him to get some basic linux knowledge. I believe we've found a new space to hold meetings, it's going to get interesting and weird! Later, Tim. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".

RE: [Wlug] Need topic for May meeting

by Keller, Tim

Andy, I could do a quick talk on 3d modeling with tools such as Kpovmodeler and povray on linux, if you think people might be interested in that... Hey, how's the job search going? I could see about getting your resume into the proper peoples hands if you'd be interested in that? Later, Tim. -----Original Message----- From: Andy Stewart [mailto:andystewart@comcast.net] Sent: Monday, May 10, 2004 5:38 PM To: Worcester Linux Users' Group Subject: [Wlug] Need topic for May meeting HI all, Well, I'm trolling for a topic for this meeting, and I'm sure that as always, we'll come up with something. Along the lines of my previous email, are there any "serious" web developers out there who would care to show us how they do it with Linux ? If not, are there volunteers in the audience who'd like to address WLUG on some topic? The floor is open..... Re: [Wlug] REMINDER: WLUG meeting coming up

by kstratton＠fastmail.us

Some 1st timers questions: 1) How do I get there? I have never been to the WPI campus and a street address would be helpful. 2) Where do I park? (part of question 1) 3) Is it OK to be a lillte late and how late does the meeting go? All days are much the same to me. But you remind me that I have been meaning to ask a question of the WLUG: Does anybody have thoughts on Linux-compatible printers? I have an HP Laserjet attached via parallel port to an old Linux machine running a CUPS server. (Common Unix Print system) It works, but they no longer make the print cartridges and the old ones are dryed out and printing grey ghosts all over that make it ugly and nearly unreadable. I print about a dozen pages/month of black and white Postscript or PDF documents, so I don't need speed. Color is just troublesome. I would like to continue to use CUPS through an ethernet cable with RJ-45 plugs. Here is a block diagram of my network http://www.free-comp-shop.com/none/wireless.html#diagram Here is a sample of the kind of things I print http://www.free-comp-shop.com/texscm.html -- Keith

Re: Dec meeting.. not the 14th! 21st or 28th?

by Tim Keller

That's true. Though, the 28th is now past xmas and likely people are going to be all over the place. For a topic, I was thinking about what VPN options are there for linux at this point? Obviously there's NordVPN, but there's also Proton as well. Something people might be interested in?
