Re: Meeting tomorrow! Distros I suggest

by Robert N. Evans

Lately I've been using EndeavouOS as an easy Arch variant. (Last year, when Ubuntu shipped an update that broke my bluetooth, I switched and have been happy since). For very old boxes (like a 2010 netbook, 2GB memory, atom CPU), I use AntiX linux. -BE -----Original Message----- From: Worcester Linux Users' Group General Discussion <wlug(a)lists.wlug.org> Sent: Oct 9, 2025 8:57 AM To: Jansen Smith <Jansen(a)bstarengineering.com> Cc: Worcester Linux Users' Group General Discussion <wlug(a)lists.wlug.org>, Tim Keller <turbofx(a)gmail.com> Subject: [WLUG] Re: Reminder! PIRG is an organization that among many other causes is advocating at the national level for the right to repair. As we are all aware, with Win10 reaching EOL, this is causing a tsunami of e-waste as people are forced to upgrade to run Win11. On Saturday Oct 18th, it's National Right to Repair day. PIRG in coordination with Techncopia is going to be hosting what's looking like to be a good old fashioned Install-fest. Sadly, I have a family conflict, but I'll be there in spirit! Meeting Topic Discussion

by Andy Stewart

HI Everybody, I've seen some good ideas floating around out there, as I knew I would once the topic got going. Now the question you'll all hate: who wants to do the presentation? :-) Is there anybody out there who is pretty well versed in IPTables that would be willing to address the next WLUG meeting? Just a thought: Do we want to ask Robert Ziegler to come back and address WLUG? He authored the Linux Firewalls book published by New Riders which was updated for IPTables. He addressed WLUG about 18 months ago and his talk was extremely detailed and technical. To be fair, some thought it was a bit too detailed and dry. Along those lines, I thought it might be good to discuss the distribution specific ways that firewalling is handled. I suspect that those are just GUIs that build a list of IPTables filters anyway. Is there anybody out there that is comfortable with discussing this for RedHat at the upcoming meeting? How about some other distro? Thanks, Andy -- Andy Stewart, Founder Worcester Linux Users' Group Worcester, MA USA http://www.wlug.org

Re: [Wlug] Upcoming meeting...

by Mike Leo

I have a recently installed Gentoo on a small form factor PC i can volunteer...its much easier to carry around than a big machine is. I suspect the meeting would be a begining the Gentoo install and since there isnt enough time to wait, we can cut over to an installed system. I don't mind sharing what I know, but I know nothing more then what it looks like at the end. Let me know and I can plan to bring this machine in. thanks Mike --- Andy Stewart <andystewart(a)comcast.net> wrote: > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > > Hi everybody, > > Wow...time flies...its nearly meeting time again. > > Based on what I saw on the mailing list recently, > I'm wondering if we should > have a "Gentoo" meeting.
