Re: [Wlug] Topics for next meeting (Tim Keller)

by Sweetser, Frank E

I won't have time to put anything together for this upcoming meeting, but if there's interest I could do something on DNSSEC at a future one. Plex holds more interest for me currently as I plan to soon build a new home NAS for professional, personal and entertainment data. Would want to include Plex in those plans. RetroPie is interesting too. Built one with my 10 year old son. He learned a lot. Dad can still win at Atari Combat. I could bring it and talk about it, but would likely be a relatively short discussion. BitCoin for me has less interest. Technically it's harder to mine for BitCoin prime numbers every month. As a financial currency it is not very strong, not quite taking the world by storm. I like it's government independence, but prepper friends prefer precious metals. We talked about doing a talk about plex, I'm not sure how interested people are. Another topic that came up was a talk about setting up a RetroPi system. Another topic that came up later was BitCoin. Personally I've always found bitcoin an enigma. If anybody in the group understands it I'd love to learn about it and possibly what tools there are on linux for mining and storing bitcoins. Re: Where to hold meetings..

by Tim Keller

David, The issue with the Worcester Public Library is that they close really early, like 5:30pm and if we want to go later we have to start paying. Tim. Reminder! WLUG Meeting Tomorrow Jan 26th 2023: Topic Frame.work laptop demo!

by Tim Keller

Hey Everybody, This is a reminder that we've got a meeting tomorrow at WPI! Time: 7pm Location: WPI Student Center Room 128 (Taylor Room) Down below the stairs. Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA Topic: frame.work laptop demo, passbolt demo Cara Salter has agreed to come and show off her frame.work laptop. This laptop is designed with upgrade ability in mind. Components such as the motherboard can be easily swapped for more powerful versions, etc. I'm also going to show off passbolt <https://www.passbolt.com/>. This is a FOSS password manager. With the massive breach of lastpass, people may want to think about having total ownership of their password stores. This solves that. As usual snacks and refreshments will be provided and afterwards we'll head off and have dinner and keep the conversation going. I hope to see you there! This is not the normal meeting setting - the BBQ is in lieu of a meeting. Please RSVP to Eric Martin so he'll know how much food to buy. Reminder: Meeting tomorrow Sept 8th 2022! Topic: TBD.. I've got some ideas!

by Tim Keller

Hey Gang! We've got a meeting tomorrow! Time: 7pm Date: Sept. 8th 2022 Physical Location: WPI Mid Century Room Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA Topic: I've got a couple of ideas! I saw a project to create an FOSS bluetooth speaker using a Pi 4! I've also seen people using pi's to create spotify streamers as well. This is of interest to me as my sonos gear is getting older, I'd like some open options. Beyond that I just know there will be interesting things people want to talk about, there always is! In other news in Oct. Dick Miller will be speaking at WLUG! I'd like to start thinking about what we'd like to talk about in Nov. Snacks and refreshments will be provided and we'll head out to dinner afterwards! Later, Tim. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".
