Re: [Wlug] REMINDER: Upcoming Meeting on Wednesday

by Aaron Haviland

Just to bridge the gap... Andy, I'm copying this to the local Ubuntu Community (LoCo) Team (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MassachusettsTeam) as although I can never make these meetings myself, I thought someone else there might be able to, and might be interested in demoing. It is short notice, though... Also, it might be interesting to compare with the latest beta of Intrepid (8.10) as that's due out next month, and I believe KDE's gone through a major change between the two releases. I'll let someone more knowledgeable speak to that... WLUG Meeting Tomorrow! Topic: Security Oriented Linux

by Tim Keller

Hey Gang, Our next meeting will be April 12th, 2018. Time: 7pm Location: WPI Mid Century Room rm 331 The topic of this meeting will be Security Oriented Linux(s). In short these are versions of linux that attempt to harden your machine through encryption, process isolation, etc. and obscure your access to the internet using proxies and tor. This will include Tails, Kali, Whonix, Qubes, etc. If you are using one of the above, drop me a quick line. Otherwise, I'll be running a few of these as VMs on my machine. Snacks and refreshments will be provided and afterwards we'll head off for dinner and keep the conversation going. Thanks, Tim. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".

Re: Ideas for the next WLUG meeting

by Joshua Stone

John, Thank you for your input! I was unfamiliar with duc's UI when I first tried using it, but now I'm much more proficient with it. I'm more than happy to share my findings with you so that more people can benefit from useful tools like this. Speaking of which, I've also managed to create a proof-of-concept flatpak of duc which you may find useful for learning the conventions of this app deployment technology: https://github.com/joshua-stone/nl.zevv.Duc I hope you can make it to the next meeting! I'm going to try to make it to the next meeting as well, but it'd have to be well before Christmas because I'll be on vacation for a couple weeks. -Josh On Mon, 2019-11-18 at 21:43 -0500, John Stoffel wrote: > Josh, This is a great start for a talk, I really like your example of > setting up duc, though you don't need to build the cache yourself > with > tcbmgr, duc should do that itself on startup. > > I may borrow your docs and testing things out and update the duc docs > as well, since I think what you've done here is really neat. > > Looking forward to trying to make the next meeting, though December > thru February will be tough for me due to other commitments. > > John >

No worries! We wrapped up the meeting by ~930, finished by Maddog regaling us with tails of IBM! I hope to soon hear from the Technopia people and then we can decide what we want to do. Later, Tim. REMINDER: WLUG Meeting THIS WED Oct 11th 7PM

by Andy Stewart

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 HI gang, This is a friendly reminder about the upcoming WLUG meeting, to be held THIS WED Oct 11th, 7:00 PM in the Access Grid Room on the WPI campus in Worcester, MA USA. At this meeting, our guest speaker will be WLUG member Doug Aker. The topic will be Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). === Abstract === How an average programmer, after discovering SVG, used zLinux, perl, XML, XSLT, HTML, JavaScript and, above all, SVG to create an interactive browser-based application to visualize client-server connections. See how Doug's odyssey into open languages led him through the lands of information theory, graph theory, set theory and data visualization. Find out why his wife and kids run out of the room whenever he starts talking about SVG. Like you, Doug has sat and snoozed through many slide presentations, and vows *not* to make this yet another PowerPoint-like affair. Please attend. Doug is comfortable with large crowds. Doug Aker has been doing application and tech support work at Verizon Communications for 21 years. ===End Abstract === After the meeting, we'll adjourn to the Tech Pizza restaurant on Highland Street for pizza, soda, and more tech talk! See ya there!
