MEETING TONIGHT!!! Campus Center rm 331 at 7PM!!

Hey Everybody, We are going to have a meeting tonight. Location: WPI Campus Center Rm 331 Time: 7pm Topic: Um.. yeah, no idea. We'll roll with it. Virtual: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA To everybody who wrote me privately, thank you. My dad is stable and okay, but in no shape to be visited, so WLUG is on! We can definitely talk about ISP's and self hosting and all the challenges that surround it. Vintage games on Linux. We can talk TrueNAS Scale and other stuff. Snacks and refreshments will be provided and afterwards we'll head out for dinner aftwards. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".

If/when this happens, it will be at some future WLUG meeting (not Aug 2005). I would like to see this happen! In an earlier email, Frank Moody said that he would see about setting up his iRiver with his laptop. With that, I think the meeting would then be about MP3 players. Eric, please bring your ipod and whatever you need to do a demo of it. If anybody has a different type of MP3 player that works with Linux, bring it along, (the more, the merrier). I had hoped to have my new MP3 player for the meeting, but the dude on eBay from whom I purchased this player is taking his time shipping it to me (auction closed 02-aug, not shipped yet...). Thanks! Hi Andy, and hello to everyone in WLUG! I will definitely try to make May's meeting. I have been working on various X-nix based systems since 1999 (Solaris, HPUX, AIX, Red-Hat, and now CRUX). I do a lot in Perl, MySQL, Nagios, BASH, and Apache. Interests...varies depending on what I am doing at any given time. I would like to learn more about IPC programming and multi-process threading in X-nix. I like getting my hands dirty working with hardware. I would not mind learning more about building custom hardware that interfaces with a system...perhaps robotics or telecom (don't get the wrong idea, I have little knowledge in this area right now). Hey everyone, Thank you again for letting me present on Silverblue, Toolbox, and Flatpak for December's WLUG meeting! Last night's meeting was great! We got Matt setup with a macbook running Ubuntu, got into the weeds talking about SSSD and rounded it out with some talk about the pi5. Kevin then showed off the Eagle file browser. Hopefully next month we'll have a pi5 to do some hands on screwing around with! Later, Tim. WLUG meeting idea - Distro comparison

I am setting up a new laptop and trying to decide on which distro to go with... Probably the same list of finalists as everyone else in no particular order (Red Hat / CentOS / Fedora / Ubuntu / Gentoo / others). Has WLUG done a disto comparison night meeting? I think it might be interesting. Each person bring in a laptop with their favorite mainstream distro (possibly 3 or 4). Spend 20 to 30 minutes on each, showing the major differences (installs / apps handling / etc) and why they like it. Probably not a new idea. If it's been done of late then please disregard as I cannot make as many meetings as I once could. (This is due to my personal schedule not due to lack of interest.) Joel
