Re: Hosting in-person meetings at library

Update: I went ahead with reserving a meeting time for us tomorrow to ensure it'd be available to the club -- 7:00PM to 8:15PM. Upcoming meeting - a potential topic - on Wed Oct 15th 7:00 PM

by Andy Stewart

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 HI all, I was hoping that we could talk about the upcoming Intrepid Ibex release of (K)Ubuntu. I loaded this software onto my laptop, but unfortunately, I cannot get dual monitors working, and that means the projector won't work with my laptop in its current state. I've seen a lot of bug reports and complaining about this problem, but nothing that I've tried will make it work. If/when I do get it working, I'll bring my laptop to the meeting, but it is not looking promising. Failing that, as a backup, if anybody has a laptop that is running this software, and has its output VGA port configured for 1024x768@60Hz (and tested prior to the meeting!), and would like to lead a discussion, please let me know. Otherwise, I'm open to other suggestions. Note that whatever the topic, our meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15th, at 7:00 PM. See ya there! Thanks! Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA Topic: Andy's Ham Radio Linux Speaker: Andy Stewart WLUG Founder Andy Stewart will be giving a talk about "Andy's Ham Radio Linux", a popular collection of Free and Open Source Software related to ham radio. Andy will present a high level overview of things that are done with ham radios, and how Linux software helps with the enjoyment of the hobby. Andy Stewart holds an Amateur Extra class ham radio license (KB1OIQ), and has been active in that hobby for 20 years. He has been a Linux enthusiast since the late 1990s. After retiring from a long and successful career as a digital logic verification engineer in 2024, Andy has spent a lot more time promoting Linux and ham radio. As usual after the meeting we'll head off for dinner to keep the conversation going! A couple people have asked about parking.. You can park in the parking lot next to Technocopia that has the loading docks. Thanks, Tim.

[OT] Introduction

by Brian Waite

Hi all. I wanted to quickly introduce myself. I just recently subscribed to the list and wanted to do a bit more than lurk. I hope to make a LUG meeting in the near future also. I don't want to waste too much bandwidth so I'll keep this short. If anyone is going up to the Ottawa Linux Symposium this month, maybe we can catch up and make some introductions, for everyone else, I look forward to meeting you all the LUG meeting. As I side note, I read the archives and wanted to second the idea for a "distro debate" LUG meeting. I think that would be really interesting to see what everyone runs and why. Thanks for the time Brian Waite
