REMINDER: Meeting on Wednesday, March 14th at 7 PM

HI everyone, This is a friendly reminder: the next WLUG meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 14th at 7 PM in Kinnicutt Hall at WPI in Worcester, MA. Directions can be found on the WLUG website: http://www.wlug.org WLUG members Doug Waud, Stephen Daukas, and Chuck Anderson have been working together on the presentation for this meeting (at least that's the story I've been given). They will be discussing their experiences with home networking. Check out the WLUG website for a more detailed description of the focus of their talk. I expect that this will be a good meeting for someone who might not have setup a home network but is considering it. After the presentation, if time allows, we'll open the floor for a general question and answer session. At the conclusion of the meeting, a group of us will head over to the Boynton Restaurant for some pizza and beer. As always, the meeting and the post-meeting festivities are open to anybody who is interested in Linux. Reminder: Upcoming meeting Wed. March 26th 7 PM

Hi Everybody, I'm sending out this reminder early in the hope that we'll have alot of people coming to this WLUG meeting. At this meeting, our guest speaker will be Jon 'maddog' Hall. maddog is the executive director of Linux International and a great speaker. He has spoken at two (or three?) previous WLUG meeting and we're happy to have him back again. The meeting will be held in Kinnicutt Hall on the WPI campus in Worcester, MA (the usual place). If you need directions, they can be found on the WLUG website. Light refreshments will be served, and I'll bring a couple of items for the free (as in beer) raffle. Hey Gang! We've got a meeting on Thursday! In light of the recent surge in Omicron (I managed to get exposed on NYE) I'm going to make this month's meeting virtual. If you've never used emacs or used it for years, you'll love this talk. If you hate emacs, well, there's nothing to be said other than to come along and jeer. Kalman is many things, but one of them is a power user of emacs. He's agreed to show off some of his emacs kung fu. In this talk you'll learn some emacs history, likely some lisp and definitely some tricks. Beyond being an emacs guru, he's also a fountain of knowledge of all things unix/linux and beyond! Disabled digest mode on my subscription this morning, so I would not read WLUG meeting replies tomorrow morning. Checked wlug.org website but could not find today's current messages there (in case I am still a digest e-mail guy). Now hours later still wondering about percent chance of tonight's WLUG meeting. REMINDER: Meeting on Wednesday, June 18th

Hi everybody, The next WLUG meeting will be on Wednesday, June 18th in a different place. This time, we're in Olin Hall room 107 (the big lecture hall on the left on the first floor of Olin Hall). More detailed directions are available on the WLUG website. The meeting time is the usual 7:00 PM. A couple of people had mentioned an interest in addressing WLUG, but I currently don't have a definite commitment for a speaker for this meeting. I would therefore llke to use this as a planning meeting to decide what activities the group would like to pursue over the next few months. Perhaps these folks would like to make a commitment for a future WLUG meeting (if so, please contact me directly). I'll bring some light refreshments. If there are enough of us, we'll go to the Boynton Restaurant afterwards for pizza/beer. WLUG Meeting: Thurs Dec 12 7:00 PM

Hi everybody, Our next WLUG meeting will actually be a joint meeting with WLUG and the Worcester County IEEE Computer Society. We'll hold the meeting in Olin Hall room 107 on the WPI campus in Worcester, MA USA (we've been there before) since it seats more people. We're anticipating a larger than normal turnout for this meeting due to the showing of the documentary entitled "Revolution OS" (on DVD!). This documentary runs for 1 hour and 25 minutes. No expertise in Linux is required to understand this documentary. Revolution OS tells the inside story of the hackers who rebelled against the proprietary software model and Microsoft to create GNU/Linux and the Open Source movement. This documentary features interviews with Linus Torvalds, Richard Stallman, Bruce Perens, Eric Raymond, Brian Behlendorf, Michael Tiemann, Larry Augustin, Frank Hecker, and Rob Malda. I've purchased a few items for the no-cost raffle which will be held after the showing of the documentary: o a copy of the Revolution OS DVD o a Revolution OS tee shirt o a Revolution OS coffee mug o a Revolution OS poster (11"x7") As always, light refreshments will be served at the meeting.
