Well, that didn't work out so well. I went to the location at the time, but there was not only no topic, but no meeting really. Only one other person was there. He said he is not on the mailing list and so did not get the cancellation notice. I said I am on the mailling list and did not get any such notice. We talked about stuff for half an hour and then went about our respective businesses. He gave me his email address, and asked to be put on the mailing list. Hey Gang! Just a reminder we've got a meeting tomorrow! Topic: National Right to Repair day Speaker: Jack Frimet from PIRG. Time: 7PM Date: October 9th, 2025 Location: Technocopia Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA Jack Frimet from PIRG reached out to me and asked that he speak at this meeting. PIRG is an organization that among many other causes is advocating at the national level for the right to repair. As we are all aware, with Win10 reaching EOL, this is causing a tsunami of e-waste as people are forced to upgrade to run Win11. On Saturday Oct 18th, it's National Right to Repair day. PIRG in coordination with Techncopia is going to be hosting what's looking like to be a good old fashioned Install-fest. Sadly, I have a family conflict, but I'll be there in spirit! Before the last meeting I volunteered to make a presentation, mainly because I thought there were no other volunteers. That turned out not to be the case. Frank gave an excellent presentation of newer email protocols. The meeting ended with Tim saying I (Keith) would do it next time and me saying I could not promise that because sometimes I have overriding Thursday commitments. I can now say that I am free next Thursday, and therefore plan to attend WLUG and can do it then. Alternately, if someone else has a plan for next meeting I can do it some other time. No hurry. Hey Everybody! We've got a meeting next week. I'm going to show off the macropad I bought at Microcenter running QMK and how you go about flashing it and some of it's really useful features. 2. Matrix stuff! Venus was gracious enough to get a matrix chat going, the next decision is if we stick with signal, stick with matrix or do we roll our own matrix? It's clear we need to "pick a lane" otherwise we've got 11 different chats everywhere.. 3. California's AB 1043 Age verification bullshit being pushed by idiots.. I know people have feelings.. I definitely do. 4. Kernel 7.0 right over the horizon!! 5. I guess we can talk about Kent Overstreets AI girlfriend? Rather not.. Reminder: Upcoming meeting

HI Everybody, This coming Thursday, June 17th, will be our next WLUG meeting, to be held at the usual place at 7:00 PM. At this meeting, we have the unusual benefit of having two speakers. First, I will give a short talk about the "bootsplash" software and how it can liven up your session while the computer boots. You can read more about it at http://www.bootsplash.org. This software has been used by the last several SuSE Linux releases, but it also works with other distributions. If you want to jazz up your computer display while the machine boots, this is the software you want to install. After that, I'll give the floor to John Rulnick, who asked to address the WLUG memebership. John's short talk will be about a weekend program he is involved with launching at Bay Path College. To quote John: === The focus [of the talk] would be on a new weekend program I'm involved with launching at Bay Path College Central Mass Center that's aimed at developing Linux-savvy sys-, net-, and database admins. I suppose there may be some potential students in WLUG, but just as likely (more likely) there may be folks interested in teaching in the program. I could talk about pretty much any aspect of the program that interests people. === I'll bring the usual soda/cookies to the meeting, and I'll put out the donation box for those folks who choose to make a small donation to WLUG.
