For me personally, Worcester area and south of there is the best match. Other areas become difficult. Thursday and Wednesdays usually good, Fridays a bit less. Reminder: Virtual Meeting today at 7PM Topic: Emacs awesomeness.

Hey Gang, This is a reminder we've got a meeting today. The presenter is my co-worker, lisp ninja, emacs badass Kalman. Beyond being a emacs wizard, he's also a mainframe guru, a unix/linux guru and is/was deeply involved in the writing/maintaining of the symbolics lisp operating system. Today he's going to show off some of his emacs foo. If you think emacs is an editor of a bygone era when things were more civilized, kalman will likely not change your mind. However, if you want to take your emacs usage to the next level you'll love this talk. If you're totally not into emacs, that's okay, come along for the ride all the same. Expect the usual banter, tangents and fun. We'll also talk about what we'll want todo for the next meeting. See ya at the meeting! REMINDER: WLUG Meeting Thurs. May 15th 7:00 PM

HI Everybody, This is a reminder about the upcoming WLUG meeting, to be held on Thursday, May 15th, 2003 at 7:00 PM in Olin Hall 107 (note new location!) on the WPI campus in Worcester, MA. At this meeting, our guest speaker will be Vince McHugh. Vince will talk to WLUG about the Common Unix Printing System (CUPS). The second part of Vince's talk will be about imaging and scanning. In this context, Vince will talk about how his company, NECS, is making Canon scanning products work in the Linux environment. Vince is a member of GNHLUG and is also a Systems Support Manager for NECS/Canon (the largest independent Canon dealer in New England). Vince has been involved with Linux for the last 4-5 years, and also possesses a Novell CNE and a Windows MCP. Light refreshments will be served at the meeting. WLUG Meeting TONIGHT Wed Nov 14th

Hi Everybody, Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend this evening's WLUG meeting due to a rotten cold and a low grade fever which I seem to have picked up somewhere. I would encourage all of you to meet this evening, and some brave soul who has been in WLUG for a long time can get up and run the meeting in my absence. Have a beer for me at the Boynton! Here is what I had planned to report to the group this evening. I would like somebody to read this to the group in case folks haven't checked their e-mail before the meeting. 1) WLUG financials I have consolidated the accounts so that all of the WLUG money is in an account at the Lowell Five bank in Chelmsford, MA. I just paid the $50 fee to join the Boston User Groups as was voted at a previous WLUG meeting, and I wrote myself a $75 check for refreshments for the calendar year 2001. That leaves us with approx. $575.00 in the bank, which has been raised through your donations as well as install fest proceeds. 2) Annual Linux Showcase This event was not attended nearly as well as in past years, due in part to the fear of flying and by the fact that many computer people have been recently laid off. There were only half as many vendors as in the past, again due to the economy, I suspect. I found the quality of the techinical talks to be very good. I heard talk that there wouldn't be an ALS next year, but that Maddog was pushing for a small number of more local conferences, perhaps one in Boston. Some cool things which I saw at ALS: a) Linux running on a Compaq iPAQ, one running X and an xterm, the other running Qt Embedded with a bunch of PDA like applications. Refer to http://www.handhelds.org for more information. b) Latest versions of Gnome and KDE in action c) A large number of kernel hackers (including Linus) on one room d) A cluster of small embedded computers built by Los Alamos National Labs, all running Linux out of FLASH memory. e) A great beer selection at the Pacific Coast Brewing Company I personally spoke to Jim Gettys and a representative from the Free Software Foundation (I think his name was Brad, but I have his card). I might be able to get one or both of these folks to come to WLUG to give a talk in the future. I guess I'll have to save the freebies until next month. See ya later, and have a great meeting! Announce: UPDATE: WLUG Meeting Thu 2/20 7PM: Software Defined Radio

Hi folks, Due to the weather this week, I've rescheduled this month's WLUG meeting for the following week, Thursday, February 20 at 7:00 PM, in the WPI Campus Center, Hagglund Room 301. Our speaker this month will be Andy Stewart, who founded WLUG in 1997 and now runs the Chelmsford Linux Meetup. Andy plans to talk about software defined radio on Linux, and with luck, do a live demonstration of gqrx: http://gqrx.dk/ If there is time, Andy *might* be able to show something related to the GNU Radio Companion, where one can build a software defined radio just by drawing the blocks and connecting them with lines. I'm going to show off Min.IO running in a docker container. I can show the web interface and then we'll stick some objects in the container.
