I can't update the website...it is currently unreachable. This will be a "Birds of a Feather" meeting where any and all topics related to Linux will be fair game. If anybody has one of those Asus Eee PCs running Linux, bring it along (so I can raffle it). ;-) We should also start planning for our summer BBQ. Keith, I have a Framework 16 and it does have good upgradability features. I have not upgraded anything with OEM parts yet, but I was able to re-use a mPCIe wireless adapter from an older laptop that is nicer with the kernel, as well as the storage from my old laptop. I saved money when buying the user-assembled Framework 16 kit as I didn't need to include storage or RAM. I used the NVMe storage from my older laptop and bought some aftermarket RAM that was cheaper than anything Framework was offering with the kit. Hey Everybody, We've got a meeting on Thursday August 11th 2022 Topic: Infrastructure as Code website with free hosting. Physical Location: Possibly the Mid-Century Room at WPI! Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA Speaker: Althea Shaheen The days of websites simply being static pages of HTML are behind us. As the web changes and the technologies underpinning complex websites grow and evolve, managing all this by hand becomes nearly impossible. Load balancers, database servers.. Now what if this website also needs to be scaled across cloud providers and on prem? What happens when your favorite cloud company whose data center is just a bunch of shipping containers burns to the ground? How easily could you reconstitute your website and all the underpinnings? Althea is going to speak to how they deploy their website and manages the entire process as code. I'd like to thank Chuck for facilitating getting Althea in contact with us. If you know people who'd like to speak, please let me know. Yes, it's quite possible we'll be able to meet in our old haunt. When I know more, you'll know more! Directions can be found on the WLUG website. At this meeting, our guest speaker will be Jason Schonberg. Jason will give us a talk about Linux on Appliances at this meeting. No, we're not talking about booting Linux on your coffee maker or toaster (or Christmas tree, Chuck). This talk will include a discussion of compiler and development issues for embedded systems. There will also be a demonstration involving the Cobalt Qube2. Reminder: Upcoming WLUG meeting

Hi everybody, This is a reminder about the upcoming WLUG meeting, to be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at the usual place (the Access Grid room, WPI campus, Worcester, MA USA). Detailed directions can be found on the WLUG webpage. At this meeting, our featured speaker is J.D. "Illiad" Frazer, the author of the comic strip UserFriendly. You can read the comic strip at http:// www.userfriendly.org. There are more details, such as biographical information, and an explanation of the comic strip's characters, linked from the WLUG home page. This meeting will be broadcast onto the Access Grid. For those who don't know, the Access Grid can be considered to be video conferencing on steroids. Read more about it at this site: http://www.accessgrid.org. There are only a few such sites in all of New England, but there are almost 200 sites worldwide: Boston University Worcester Polytechnic Institute Dartmouth Univ. of Maine - Orono I am going to try to get to Softpro and see if I can pick up a couple of UserFriendly books for the raffle. As usual, light refreshments will be served. After the meeting, we'll adjourn to some local restaurant. I'm not sure, but I think the Boynton Restaurant is still undergoing major renovations and is thus closed. In that event, we can probably go to the mexican place (Tortilla Sams, I think its called).
