April WLUG virtual meeting was a resounding success!

Hey Everybody, I just wanted to give a shout out to everybody who showed up to the virtual meeting last night. It was cool to see Maddog show up, I'm glad he's staying safe and healthy. Yeah, there were a couple of audio/video hiccups, but I thought overall it went great. I shared my screen a couple of times and that worked just fine as well. One cool thing that was brought up doing the meeting and I thought was worth talking about is "vscodium" which is a 100% open source recompile of the visual studio code editor. The big difference is that the vscode as shipped from microsoft contains telemetry tracking data that gets sent back to the mothership... https://vscodium.com/ solves that problem. We obviously jibber jabbed about COVID19 and folding@home and Logan showed off the facemasks he's been printing as well as the antennae he's building to contact a long lost satellite in geostationary orbit. While it wasn't the same as a physical meeting, when we do manage to get ourselves all back in the same room, I think it's something we'll definitely incorporate into the physical meetings. Andy, If you're still interested, I can briefly discuss my offer to give a preso (for the Oct meeting) on the SVG application I've developed. If there's interest, great. If not, no hard feelings. I've not had time to port the browser part of the application to SUSE Linux. The XML transformations though, *do* run on Linux (zLinux: IBM's Linux that runs under VM on mainframes). Andy, I would also enjoy some additional discussion on firewalls. Here are my suggestions for additional topics; 1) ipchains and dial out PPP. Setting up a fire wall for dialing into your favorite ISP. 2) ELF Files. How to read and map an ELF file. How to extract and use symbols. 3) Reading Linux crash dumps. Starting point and what to look for. Absolute locations in the dump. Interesting Linux data structures. 4) Writing a basic Linux driver. 5) Embedded Linux - There appears to be significantly more "Embedded Linux" job opportunities than "Linux" opportunities. How are they different? How do you move from Linux to embedded Linux? 6) Creating the ultimate ".emacs" file. I won't make July or August meetings due to being out of the Worcester area. I like the Hudson Library idea. Also like the idea of possibly it moving around to different locations idea. I can see WLUG meeting at different libraries, coffee houses or brew pubs around central MA. A bit like the 70's Kung Fu TV series. Roaming the area with only our highly tuned Linux skills and spiritual training as a Shaolin Monk...
