Andy, If you're still interested, I can briefly discuss my offer to give a preso (for the Oct meeting) on the SVG application I've developed. If there's interest, great. If not, no hard feelings. I've not had time to port the browser part of the application to SUSE Linux. The XML transformations though, *do* run on Linux (zLinux: IBM's Linux that runs under VM on mainframes). Andy, I would also enjoy some additional discussion on firewalls. Here are my suggestions for additional topics; 1) ipchains and dial out PPP. Setting up a fire wall for dialing into your favorite ISP. 2) ELF Files. How to read and map an ELF file. How to extract and use symbols. 3) Reading Linux crash dumps. Starting point and what to look for. Absolute locations in the dump. Interesting Linux data structures. 4) Writing a basic Linux driver. 5) Embedded Linux - There appears to be significantly more "Embedded Linux" job opportunities than "Linux" opportunities. How are they different? How do you move from Linux to embedded Linux? 6) Creating the ultimate ".emacs" file. I won't make July or August meetings due to being out of the Worcester area. I like the Hudson Library idea. Also like the idea of possibly it moving around to different locations idea. I can see WLUG meeting at different libraries, coffee houses or brew pubs around central MA. A bit like the 70's Kung Fu TV series. Roaming the area with only our highly tuned Linux skills and spiritual training as a Shaolin Monk... Hey Everybody, We've got a meeting on Thursday August 11th 2022 Topic: Infrastructure as Code website with free hosting. Physical Location: Possibly the Mid-Century Room at WPI! As the web changes and the technologies underpinning complex websites grow and evolve, managing all this by hand becomes nearly impossible. Load balancers, database servers.. Now what if this website also needs to be scaled across cloud providers and on prem? What happens when your favorite cloud company whose data center is just a bunch of shipping containers burns to the ground? How easily could you reconstitute your website and all the underpinnings? Althea is going to speak to how they deploy their website and manages the entire process as code. I'd like to thank Chuck for facilitating getting Althea in contact with us. If you know people who'd like to speak, please let me know. Yes, it's quite possible we'll be able to meet in our old haunt. When I know more, you'll know more! Keith, I have a Framework 16 and it does have good upgradability features. I have not upgraded anything with OEM parts yet, but I was able to re-use a mPCIe wireless adapter from an older laptop that is nicer with the kernel, as well as the storage from my old laptop. I saved money when buying the user-assembled Framework 16 kit as I didn't need to include storage or RAM. I used the NVMe storage from my older laptop and bought some aftermarket RAM that was cheaper than anything Framework was offering with the kit.
