Pulls out a walker.. Why, when I was just a wee linux lad, installing linux was an huge pain in the ass.. not like these days when you can just boot from an ISO.. from a usb stick.. you needed three floppies and a zip drive!! Then you'd accidentally "dd" your hardrive (hd0) trying to create a floppy image so you could install the ppp program!! These days installing linux is far easier than it ever was, but there's still interesting corner cases and odd devices that getting linux installed on them can be tricky. Tim. We are fortunate that at least one, and often two, WPI network engineers attend the meeting, so I don't think getting on the internet will be a real problem as long as at least one of them is in attendance. Trouble making question: why would someone assume the presence of Windows at a *Linux* meeting?! Clearly, you're new here. I think we're doing a key signing in September, but I am definitely interested in hearing you talk about your internship at MS. Sounds like that covers October! Anybody have anything for this month? I've been hearing if you haven't already ordered a PI 5 then you won't get one until the 3rd production batch. Unless you can find a store that bought for their own stock and they haven't sold out yet. Also, the PI 5 specs are a mix of good and bad. Good performance, bad cooling, and lack of hardware decoding for a bunch of video types. April WLUG virtual meeting was a resounding success!

Hey Everybody, I just wanted to give a shout out to everybody who showed up to the virtual meeting last night. It was cool to see Maddog show up, I'm glad he's staying safe and healthy. Yeah, there were a couple of audio/video hiccups, but I thought overall it went great. I shared my screen a couple of times and that worked just fine as well. One cool thing that was brought up doing the meeting and I thought was worth talking about is "vscodium" which is a 100% open source recompile of the visual studio code editor. The big difference is that the vscode as shipped from microsoft contains telemetry tracking data that gets sent back to the mothership... https://vscodium.com/ solves that problem. We obviously jibber jabbed about COVID19 and folding@home and Logan showed off the facemasks he's been printing as well as the antennae he's building to contact a long lost satellite in geostationary orbit. While it wasn't the same as a physical meeting, when we do manage to get ourselves all back in the same room, I think it's something we'll definitely incorporate into the physical meetings.
