It seems to me that you want both resiliency (able to suffer a drive failure) and checksums of the files you have on there as well. Would it make more sense to use 'tripwire' with an ext4 filesystem? I know that rock solid filesystems are my choice. I've looked at using XFS and JFS in the past... but the downsides were just too much for my tastes. Esp since I do like to upgrade kernels and such. Being able to resize the filesystem (offline is fine) is a winner. Online resizing would be even better, but that's a much tougher nut to crack. I sure do miss Doug. I definitely remember the installfests and I even have a couple cd's that a I burned and made use of the cd printing machine we had at Stratus. The two I definitely remember were done in the education center at Stratus. As for Bob I see that he's joined the meetup WLUG group! Tim. Re: [Wlug] Success, almost, with GNOME

After last nights meeting, I figured that I'd use KDE. I've used KDE on other machines and I liked it. Unfortunately, some stuff doesn't seem to work. For instance, on my gnome desktop, when I plug in my external USB hard drive, it shows up on the gnome desktop, but not on my KDE desktop. While I could've gotten around that, it also cannot be found in Konquerer, or even from a command line! That's the only thing I've found so far. I did notice that some apps were there and working when they didn't exist or didn't work on gnome. So I will keep using gnome on my Fedora Core 4 laptop, until I find a better one. second annual Northeast Linux Fest

Hello list Announcing the 2nd annual Northeast GNU/Linuxfest. Where: Worcester State University, Worcester MA When: March 17, 2012 Info: http://northeastlinuxfest.org Last year we had just speakers at the event. This year we are stepping it up considerably. We are featuring a hackerspace competition where teams from across the Northeast will compete for prizes for best design. This years theme is accessibility. We will also hold LPI and BSD exams on the morning of the event. The folks from Open Street Map will hold workshops throughout the day. We also have tables from various sponsors. Among the keynote speakers this year will be the other organizer for the event Jonathan Nadeau. Jonathan is blind but this has not prevented him from working with Debian, Fedora and Triquel in hopes of making each distribution more accessible for vision impaired or physically disabled. This is an event that can also be used to meet other people in the linux world and make new contacts. This is an all day event. All events will be held in the main student center. There is also a cafeteria on the second floor which features a $5 all you can eat buffet. Last but not least, if you are 21 or older we have our very popular after party event at Jillians. We also have arranged to get special room rates at the Worcester Marriott. You must reserve your room before February 17, 2012 to get this rate. You can either use the link off the Northeastlinuxfest website or you can make reservations over the phone but be sure to mention the Northeast Linuxfest group to get the rate. Kevin, I guess the question I would first ask is: "What's the technical inclinations of the people you're going to be teaching?". If their geeks like us, then I'd go into using package managers and I'd talk about the nitty gritty stuff. If their not geeks, then you need to take a different tact. Instead of talking about linux as an operating system and extolling the virtues of open source, instead talk about the applications that are available on linux and how they stack up to what their already using. The games question is a sticky one... there are lots of cool games for linux, any particular genre you're interested in?
