Hi! Since my job is in the TV field, I have been watching this thread. Before you can even look at a studio, there are several things that need to be acomplished. The Producer (someone has to take the reins and make decisions, studio reservations, find crew, etc.) needs to set up some production meetings and decide how the show will be formatted (is it a series of shows, is it a one time show, talking heads show, magazine type, etc.). Then, a script has to be written. What will happen when, what needs to be edited, how long the final production will be, etc. Then a crew has to be chosen: director, camera operators, editors, etc. Then studio time, if needed, could be reserved. If someone has a digital video camera, I believe there is some editing software out there that runs on Linux. Doug, you are right, but your numbers are off a tad; for every second of finished video, approx. 1 minute of post production are required. Pre-production time is even more than that, sometimes. Don't let the numbers scare you...it's still quite do-able, just remember, a good product takes some time and work. Right click on windows desktop, choose settings->background, then under wallpaper select (None). That disables windows wallpaper. Maybe there's something else. Can someone help me out here? I really know very little about windows. On the client side, the option '-depth 8' doesn't seem to do very much i get '16 bits per pixel'. If anyone knows of any other methods for speeding up VNC, please post. I've played with Mambo (openmambo.org) and openeffect. There is a website that has a bunch of CMSs up with admin passwords so you can play around (the CMS sites go back to default every 15 minutes). Yes, there is parking on both the quad (front of the building) and street (back of the building). There shouldn't be too many problems getting a spot at that hour, I believe. HI Everybody, I've enjoyed sitting back for a couple of days, resting my carpal tunnels, and reading the opinions of the WLUG membership. I would like to note that I have expressed WLUG's general displeasure with BUG to the president of BUG, Rick Zach. He told me that the calendar issue would be cleared up if we chose to renew our membership. Clint Moyer is quite correct when he points out that WLUG can afford the $50 if we so choose, but unfortunately we're not at five figures in the bank (unless you count the two figures for cents). :-) Certainly, if we did decide to renew, I would attend any/all BUG meetings, insure that WLUG had a presence at the MegaMeeting, etc. I did this last year after we paid our initial $50 membership fee. I'll sit back a bit longer and wait for any other comments from WLUG members on this topic. I'll probably close the topic by this weekend, unless the discussion is lively at that time. 4th annual Installfest a complete success!

Hey All, The installfest was a complete success! Statistics: Total Installs: 8 Percentage successful: 100% Installs that were a no-show: ~2 (both Stratus employees, I'll be hunting them down later today...) Pizzas Ordered: 6 Percentage devoured: 100% Number of junker pc's that one installee cannibalized to make one working machine: 3 Raffle Info: Congratulations to Colin Novick and Bill Mills-Curran who both won copies of "Linux System Administration: A Users Guide." The Installers: Andy Stewart Al Butler Brian Waite Chuck Anderson David Lugwig Mani Sundaram Marc Hughes (If I've forgotten anybody, just send an addendum...) Other Stuff: Someone asked about the goodies CD's... There are a couple of things. 1. If Chuck has the space, I'd gladly upload it and he can mount it on a loopback. 2. I will cut a couple more copies (I might add some more stuff) and bring them to the meeting on Thursday. If you specify want a copy, drop me a line and I'll make you up one explicitly.
