A VPN is a good idea. PPTP, however, isn't. I highly recomend using some other VPN setup, if at all possible. PPTP on linux doesn't excatly give you a rock solid network conneciton. But, if you have no other options, there are both a client and a server for linux. The server is called PoPToP. Search freshmeat for it. The client lives at http://merced.needsabeating.com/pptp.html. Creating web content with Linux

HI everybody, I gave my "Introduction to Linux" presentation to a group of Internet professionals in Hopkinton last night (http://www.ip495.org) I was asked a question which I could not definitively answer since I am not a creator of web pages. The questions are: What tools are available on Linux for creating web content? Is there something akin to FrontPage for Linux? Sure, for simple HTML, any text editor will do. I've even used OpenOffice, but it feels crude to me (maybe I just don't know how to use it properly). GIMP could be used to create still images. Beyond that, I'm lost. Hierarchical note taking, Joplin, Trilium, browser extensions, etc..

At last night's meeting, a new attendee brought up a problem she was having and one of the solutions that got bandied about was Joplin. After doing some research, this might be my new note taking app. Another very interesting FOSS tool out there is called "Trilium" https://github.com/zadam/trilium As much as I like google's keep.. I'm fully aware that google capable of just pulling the rug out from under me in a moment's notice. I've spun up U22.04.3 server and I'm going to tinker with Joplin and possibly Trilium and let people know what I think of them. Chris, Thanks for the writeup and information. That's a really good set of notes on how to make this work for the occasional use. Of course this also means that your local home session is now unlocked and visible while you're working on it remotely, and if your home isn't secure, you might be leaving yourself open. I'm sure you're re-locking the X-display when you're done and killing the x0vncserver, but I think it should be a part of your notes, so that things are kept secure. Now if you turn off your monitors at home while on the road, this is a little less of a risk if only because your montiors won't light up when you're using them remotely. I still like the mobaxterm solution for some situations. But if you need to grab info from a running X tool which can't be stopped/restarted, then this works well.
