WLUG demos...

I know I haven't been ot a meeting in a *long* time, but I do hope to make one this spring if I can. Right now I'm playing with Arduino controller boards on my Ubuntu desktop. Fun blinky LEDs, etc. http://arduino.cc http://www.ladyada.com (where I got my parts) http://www.sparkfun.com http://www.evilmadscientist.com (lots of neat stuff) And loads of others in google. It's pretty neat to play with, and it's interesting moving from the IDE (which has a sucky editor) to a more pure Emacs/Makefile driven setup. I figure maybe I could come and demo this at some point. Any interest? Loosely Linux related, since I'll be using an Ubuntu LiveCD and thumb drive to setup and demo the environment. John

Thanks James. I'll pass along the group-finder thing to the soon-to-be-ex-Mac guy. The text file has been broken since May 2012. This is a genealogical database, that runs in a program that accesses the file, which consists of names, dates, places, etc, plus notes. I think the bogus character might be an at sign @ but if so, it won't help to search for it, because GEDCOMS contain several @ for each individual. My database contains 115,000 individuals. I think I know what family (surname) I was working on when it broke, though, and it still hangs there. I guess I could grep the file for that surname and get it to output a couple of lines after it finds each instance. So WLUG isn't dead yet, although some of it might be asleep. But we're here. Ubuntu CD's

I made the mistake of offering a linux basics class at work. I was going to use the Ubuntu LiveCD to get the class some hands on. This way, they could take the CD and install it if they wanted too. I figured about 5-10 responders would say they wanted to go to the class. So far about 20 people are coming. Anyone have any extra 5.1 Ubuntu CD's they can part with? I need at least 10 more now and don't have time to wait for the mail. I know I could make copies, but talking about the free-ness of it, it would be better to hand them a nice legit copy. If so, please bring them to the LUG meeting tomorow if you can. Thanks... Mike
