I run OpenWrt at work and at home, it is a very nice piece of work, never had a lockup. GIMP tutorials

A couple of WLUG members had been interested in GIMP a few months back. A presentation I gave to the group last Fall may have been effective that it could have been, since we couldn't get the big monitors working in the meeting room. But now while looking for one piece of info, I came across this in article Linux Haxor: "50 Tutorials To Get You Started With Gimp." http://www.linuxhaxor.net/2009/02/09/50-tutorials-to-get-you-started-with-g… Some of these tutorials seem to be concerned with specific special effects, but others, such as "Using and Manipulating Layers with Gimp" and "Retouching hair and eye (video)" might be of interest to non-artist persons, and to those who want to work with photos they have uploaded from digital camera. reboot problem

At the meeting before last, I asked about a problem I'm having with the computer occasionally going to a black screen with no disk activity on reboot, right after the grub menu goes away. Overnight memtest showed no errors, I put a different vid card in, and still had the black screen problem. One of the things someone mentioned was to test the power supply. Recently, I had a few hard lockups and a couple of spontaneous reboots. So, how do I test my power supply, other than replacing it and seeing if the problem goes away? Or is that evidence enough to change it ASAP? According to lm-sensors, voltages are fine, and I've even sat and watched gkrellm for long periods of time - they look stable. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Greg

A VPN is a good idea. PPTP, however, isn't. I highly recomend using some other VPN setup, if at all possible. PPTP on linux doesn't excatly give you a rock solid network conneciton. But, if you have no other options, there are both a client and a server for linux. The server is called PoPToP. Search freshmeat for it. The client lives at http://merced.needsabeating.com/pptp.html. Creating web content with Linux

HI everybody, I gave my "Introduction to Linux" presentation to a group of Internet professionals in Hopkinton last night (http://www.ip495.org) I was asked a question which I could not definitively answer since I am not a creator of web pages. The questions are: What tools are available on Linux for creating web content? Is there something akin to FrontPage for Linux? Sure, for simple HTML, any text editor will do. I've even used OpenOffice, but it feels crude to me (maybe I just don't know how to use it properly). GIMP could be used to create still images. Beyond that, I'm lost.
