Hello, Re: Red Hat and IBM Several weeks ago IBM and Red Hat announced a change to their business licenses for RHEL. Several pundits wrote their opinions about these changes. I carefully read most of them, but I felt some concepts were missing. So I took my time and wrote my thoughts on it. I wrote to you in the middle of writing this article that I would share it with you when it was finished. I will warn you that the article is long. Very long. It is not the article of the TicTok generation, or even the Instagram generation. It is not an article for the faint of heart, but I think it does give a lot of insight into the development of software as an industry, binary-only code and why it happened, Open Source and Free Software. Hi, I have been writing up a response to this that goes much deeper into the discussion than most articles I have read have done. Because I have been busy doing other things (Board Chair of the Linux Professional Institute, defending the Linux Trademark AGAIN, doing virtual presentations and preparing for a long trip to Latin America) I have not had time to finish it, but I should be able to finish it this weekend. I have given drafts to other LPI board members, many of whom have been in the FOSS space almost as long as I have and some have been in the computer space....no...few people have been in that space as long as I have. So far the comments have been good, some saying it was "great". When it is finished I will post it to the LPI blog (free for everyone to read) and let you guys know. I would also be happy to talk about it in great depth at a WLUG meeting. Spoiler Alert: There is no evil here, and out of it could come great good. I recently bought for my pi5 an actual cooler amd a hat that'll let me connect a m.2. I've hinted at setting up a zulip server and other stuff on it and then serving it over a tailsacale funnel. You've pretty much hit the high points Chuck. From my own experience when going overseas if I'm able to VPN to the country I'm going to, the rental car reservation is considerably less in cost to reserve that car than if I reserved it from state side. I'm assuming there is a difference between a poor native and a rich American. Hello. I am new to this LUG. So I would like to say hello. Peter said that his wife has to connect to his SaMBa server from UMass. When I have had similar situations What I did was to setup a VPN using PPTP. That way you can block All SMB traffic to the outside world. Connect to the PPTP termination point with your client. Setup up the Tunnel and then the SMB information is passed on the inside of the tunnel. Thus keeping the integrity. Also this gives a smaller "signature" for your firewall/server to the real world.
