Is introducing yet-another-flavor-of-linux useful? I understand what you are trying to achieve, but one of the first questions that came to my mind was "what is the difference between Knoppix and a regular Linux distro"? (The first was actually "what the hell is Knopix"!) Will it be confusing to the people looking at is verusus what they see when they look at SuSe, Red Hat, etc.? In the strictest sense this is true, but as far as the KRACK attack goes, the wireless AP side is much less likely to be a problem, because the vulnerabilities are in parts of the standards that are not often used (802.11r "Fast Roaming" for example). The client-side vulnerabilities, especially in Linux/Android, are much more serious. On Linux, the client can be tricked into using a null session key. However, in a coffee shop KRACK is moot because most coffee shops don't use encryption at all to begin with. In any case, WPI's recommendation to use the VPN if you are not sure of your device's or the network's immunity to KRACK is sound, because even if there was a M-i-t-M, they still would not be able to decrypt the VPN traffic. Security is helpful in layers. Belt-and-suspenders.

I don't think it's a tangent at all. Just another piece of a bigger picture. Replicate all the pieces of an economy to be managed locally. Job/gig boards, stores, delivery (door dash style), transaction processing, etc. A relatively small local company can manage it using open source tools, and then other communities can use the same tools following their lead. Local economies can scale better, and can help rebuild community.
