Last time people had trouble hearing me. I tested my microphone by asking Diane to let me into her Zoom account. We sat in the living room 3m apart and tried to talk through headphones and our respective computers and OSes. It put up a big button that said "Download Zoom Ap" with misgivings I clicked it. It put a *.deb (Debian) file on my computer, but did not install it (thank GNU). Then I noticed a much smaller button that said "Use Browser". When I clicked that it all worked just fine. Diane and I could Video chat through wifi, Spectrum's router, and (I assume) some Zoom server somewhere. So the hardware works. I think somebody in a previous message hinted that there were audio hardware configuration options in the Jit.Si web page. Does anybody have any thoughts? Using Debian kwright@fcs26:~$ cat /etc/os-release PRETTY_NAME="Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm)" and Firefox 102.15.1esr (64-bit) on a Intel core i7 vPro Thinkpad with Logitech H390 USB headset. -- Keith

Outgoing SMTP is not blocked and will function, but is frequently blacklisted by recipients who refuse to accept email originating from a residential IP block. I have a relay in Amazon-EC2 that sends the email. Some recipients continue to not like that, but doing SPF/DKIM/DMARC goes a long way, and I've had no trouble sending to recipients at gmail and at various MS outlook/o365ish recipients. The biggest issue I have is that if the cablemodem goes offline for a long enough time, my IP address changes. But I've got by now a well-established checklist of stuff that I need to do when the house IP changes, so I just walk through the list and all is well in a few minutes. Decent email senders will queue the bounced email for a few days before bouncing back to sender and I'm not aware of having lost anything. --MCV. > I think the answer is "it depends". Give away...

Hey Everybody, I've got a color 13" television I'd like to give to a good home. It's an oldie, but a goodie. Every once and a while it'll get a bit of a red ting, but overall it works great. Note, this TV only has coax input. I've also got a 21" viewsonic monitor that the red electron gun has gone on the fritz. I'm sure a monitor tech could fix it in no time, however since it cost me nothing, I feel no qualms in just giving it away. Other stuff... 1. Pentium 166 with 128mb of ram. This entire machine is questionable and possibly a fire hazard (due to some dodgy soldering work done by your truly on the power supply after the fans bearings went south and I installed a new fan) though I ran the machine for many years after my repairs and never had a problem. With a new case and power supply this machine would probably be a great firewall. It's also got a 512mb and 3gig hard drive in it. 2. Huge Server case minus power supply. 6 bays in the front, lots of room for fans and drives and all that good stuff. If you want any of this stuff, just write me back and I'll bring it with me to the next wlug meeting. If you can't make it to the meeting, we'll arrange something. Thanks, Tim.

I would be interested in SIP & internet telephony. Would LOVE an open source, low cost (server) alternative to Skype. Not attached to when a presentation like this might happen, but would like to hear how someone made this work. Tried Ekiga and I think one other several years ago... it worked but the sound was horrible. Hopefully the technology has progressed considerably since then. September talk

Yep, still up for it. Is there a way to connect two HDMI sources up to projector/tv/video in the room? Reason I have two Pi's and I thought after the talk can have two running for demo purposes.
