Hi Forrest, Welcome to WLUG! Please feel free to ask any linux questions you have on this list, and please do come to the next meeting where we have a good group of people who are willing to step up and help people. I have a couple of RaspberryPis I run for various things, along with my main server I run at home for backups and file storage. We have a wide variety of people with various levels of experience and I'm sure they'll chime in soon. Oct 24, 2002: Install Fest !

HI Everybody, I have reserved the HIggins Labs discovery classroom (HL218?) for our upcoming install fest! This is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24, which is the night which was scheduled for our next WLUG meeting. I thought that the first week of B term would work out well for the WPI undergraduates. In place of the meeting, we'll have the install fest from 6:30 - 9:30 PM (yes, the time is earlier for this occasion). I will update the website shortly. If you know people who are interested in having us help them with a Linux installation, please ask them to send me an e-mail so I can keep track. We can probably accomodate folks who want us to configure something but I'd like to give priority to installations. Voyeurs are most welcome to watch and learn! Would somebody from WPILA please post this information on some appropriate WPI newsgroups, bulletin boards, and the like? I'd like to give priority to WPI students and allow "outsiders" if we have enough space. Remember, we have another install fest in February which is open to everybody. Follow up to tonights meeting

Howdy! We covered a few topics tonight, including this one: http://news.com.com/2008-1082_3-5065859.html?tag=lh and this one: http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?t=141352 And more discussions about gentoo vs (insert distro here). We covered some iPod things, and maybe helped someone with a perl script. I showed off my little Dell L700 laptop and enlightenment desktop manager...very lightweight and has nice eye candy, but no icons. Lots of discussions around Intel and AMD as well...hopefully we will see that pdf regarding the lawsuit... For the holidays I setup my raspberry pi to act as an automatic christmas tree waterier. Thus I've become quite acquainted with the GPIO (General Purpose I/O) pins on the raspberry pi. I could definitely give a talk that would be a primer on controlling TTL devices using a raspberry pi and python.
