Grumble. I remember back in either late '92 when I was a 16 year old commuting Mass Academy student and I came back to my car, in my assigned WPI parking lot (across the street from the end of the sports field) and found a parking ticket because apparently the lot was supposed to be clear for snow removal. I'm not sure what channel I was supposed to get a notification about this from. They certainly didn't put up a sign. Classes were most definitely not canceled. The lot was full, so obviously no one else had gotten the message either. Oh, and the ticket was underneath a perfectly even and undisturbed layer of snow, so I'd obviously gotten it before any snow had fallen at all. I'll always remember that as my first parking ticket. I'm starting to suspect the firewall. I have a lot of blocked IP addresses that have accumulated over the years. I don't know what they are nor recall what they did to offend me years ago. On the other hand, when I start jit.si it has a button that says "Join Meeting", when I click it, it pops up another button that says "Join without sound", no other choice, so I choose that. Maybe it can't find the microphone, so it turns off the loudspeaker? But when it starts up it has a message at the bottom that says: "It sounds like your microphone is working". The Multimedia==> Pulseaudio==>Input device has a jumping blue line that reacts to sounds I make, so I know there is a microphone in there somewhere. > What Debian version are you running? The goals of ZFS in terms of file content checksums are awesome, I really like that. I just wish there was a better way to actually shrink ZFS filesystems (even if done as any offline process) without jumping through all kinds of hoops. Hey Gang! Location: Technocopia, 44 Portland St. Worcester MA. Date: November 21st, 2024 Time: 7PM Topic: Going rogue. I know, a flashy title to draw you in! Let's be frank, the digital landscape is looking a bit bleak right now. More and more, I'm finding myself not that interested in posting anything about myself or my family because I don't need some AI algorithmically categorizing me. Even this email I'm sure is being analyzed by google.. gmail is free for a reason.. I had an idea and that was this. Would people be interested in a mastodon server running inside a tailscale mesh? Or some other service, like IRC or https://revolt.chat/ or I'm sure other people have other great ideas. My plan is to show off a pi running mastodon and/or revolt with tailscale. I'd love to hear people's thoughts about this. If people even think the tailscale stuff is needed. So that's my thought for what we might talk about.
