Funny I just wrote a program due to having young kids. I wondered how my oldest would do at spelling tests in first grade. I decided to whip up a game to test his spelling. Due to my son's obsession with Legos I used a Lego movie setting for the game. You play Batman trying to rescue people from some new think tanks. Each character has a password to release them based on them. Batman says what the word is an you have to spell it. Of course getting enough content in to be usable is taking time. My son's spelling words don't always work easily either. My sons have played with gcompris a little bit. In the past we have tried with limited success, I'll see if I can get it recorded. This folds nicely into the topic. Jitsi has a built in recording feature.. that uses Dropbox and seems to only *randomly* work, or stops recording randomly.. real fun.. I've got OBS on my laptop, so I'll see if I can record it local and the upload it to our YouTube channel. Tim. I hope to make it. I'll have to borrow Diane's laptop. My Linux laptop makes a fine computer, but a bad television It says "Topic: Good question!" So here's my good question: I run a name server (DNS). A few days ago it started getting abut 100 requests/min from many different IP addresses all for isc.org. Why are they asking me? I believe I have it set up so that queries from inside the house are so-called "recurive"--- it searches the internet for an answer, but queries from outside are anwered only with info it already has. I am not sure if that means it only answer queries for which it authoritative, or if it also anwers if it has the data cached. I would like it to just blow off any queries for which it is not authoritative. Tell where to send mail for @keithdiane.us and not even answer otherwise. It is remarkably difficult to get it to put replies into the log file, even if it is logging the queries. Could somebody run the following and tell me the results? dig @66.92.74.188 isc.org (that's my IP address) -- Keith

Downloads...

While I think having an ISO image for download would be a good idea, a general download area where folks can post items of interest, say from one of the WLUGs, might be a better idea. That way, if someone has items that have been discussed in either a meeting or on the mailing list, then they can put it somewhere for others to grab. Of course, there is the perennial problem of making sure this isn't used for illicit materials and/or that the site isn't swamped, but there are many ways to manage that. Most companies have an area for this sort of thing and I'll bet we could come up with a solution as well. Too bad I can't make the next meeting, but I'll bet a good discussion over pizza and beer might yield some good ideas! Regards, Steve P.S. I'm just in the process of building a new RH server machine for myself and my domains. I plan on having such a download area and would be interested in being educated as to the pros and cons of that sort of service. I had thought about putting Linux stuff in there, so maybe there is a potential fit with WLUG?

I thought the computer was for doing computations and never put much thought or effort into watching TV on it, but I have obtained a pair of USB headphones w/ attached microphone, and have been playing with it (them) and finding the buttons and setup menus. It seems to work. So I will be joining (if at all) with a Genuine Linux(TM) laptop. The big advantage of that, besides proof-of-concept, is that I might be able to screen-share and show people what I have been computing. CU7PM, -- Keith

Tim, I could swear I read before, at least for residential services that Charter (now Spectrum) internet did NOT allow you to host a site which is why I have never tried to do it. I would guess that its all about the bandwidth dollars.
