Chuck Anderson demo'd a PS-RISC system running Debian Linux. I have a similar system that I am offering up for sale. Its an HP 9000 model J210 than has: -2 PA-RISC 120mhz processors -1 gig of memory -2 four gig HVD SCSI drives -SCSI CD-ROM -An extra 10/100 ethernet NIC card(there is already one built in) -VGA adapter(although as Chuck pointed out, the display card isn't supported yet under Linux) -an external HVD SCSI interface as well as an external SCSI-2 interface It all works and currently has a version of HP-UX 11 that I need to wipe before selling it. As stated before, there is a working Linux kernel for it and it would make a great server or at the very least, a great hobby system. $250 or best offer Reply if your interested. Price Chopper is the place where you turn onto Highland Street to get to WPI. Turn onto Highland, going East. Go down to West Street (next traffic light), and turn left there (or the street before) and find a place to park in the next block or so. The cross street you come to is Institute Road, turn left there for a possible parking space, or use the campus map to locate parking lots. The Lower Wedge would be located west of West Street, and north of Institute Street. Entrance to the Lower Wedge is facing that square on the WPI map (a common) in front of building A and H, that has the x-shape thing in it. That's supposed to represent the walking paths across the common. Entrance is nearer to H than to A. WLUG bbq thurs july9 7pm boylston MA

Announcing (with Tim's blessing/OK) our next meeting is the WLUG summer BBQ at my house ; 540 linden st, boylston ma. <= 20min from worc via 290, .....so many other ways to get here from north/190 ; east/495, etc. Thurs July 9 at or before 7pm. Food details later. BBQ's don't need a topic, but I would love to keep doing+learning a LITTLE with -- freeNAS : my own home server works enough to NOT wanna break it, but smbd isnt working yet ( want to share with win doze) -- other ZFS-able boxes (e.g. my junker/re-loadable PC has pc-bsd with issues, want it to catch ZFS snapshots over ssh for backups ..how hard could that be?) -- chainsaws, musical instruments, tricks+treats for golden retrievers and a cat (just kidding for the meeting, but now you know way too much about me) Maybe someone else wants to bring a tower/PC for abuse or argument e.g. loading something like the above top 2, then studying the result. Or not? What did I forget besides food? -doug also with wife's blessing, if I do all the work.

But it is also truthful that all these "events" --heartbleed, the bash problem, and now TLSv3 (oh yeah, it's called "POODLE") is adding to the FUD. The fact that I can look at sourcecode tips the balance in favor of FOSS for me certainly, and I assume for most people on this list. But that doesn't change the fact that the questions are out there. So people using/running FOSS in a non-hobby environment should be prepared to answer questions about it if we consider ourselves to be advocates. I don't think FOSS confidence is a silly discussion item for this group. --MCV.
