Re: Happy Whatever-mas!

by Evan White

I got a confirmation email on the 24th and can confirm I'm getting new messages from the list. I regret missing the meeting on the 12th, looking back I was knee deep in Google Workspace scripting and got completely time warped. See you all at the next meeting! Re: Meeting THIS WEEK, July 10th, 2025! Topic: ?TrueNAS? Pi Kiosk displays?

by Kevin Stratton

I am interested in a pihole as well. I also just got an N150 mini pc for things like this. I am particulary interested in doing this with docker images. When I tried to install a docker recursive DNS server that I trust, It needed a Email address, which I did not want to place on my internet email provider. So now I have to install a EMail server for pihole. (recusion sucks). Another area of interest for me might be the consequences of CGNET (if any) for a DYNDNS setup for a personal home page and similar things. There is a small possibility that I will have fiber available in the next couple of months and the provider apparently uses CGNET. Lemmy is cool conceptually, but FYI, since you're thinking about social change, the maintainers of Lemmy are fascist-sympathisers ("tankies" is the term to Google for). I'm not running machine learning code so that hasn't been an issue for me. My only two problems (personally) with it are: 1) Storage is limited (I want at leat 16 TB for all of my media -- photos and videos). A pair of 8 TB M.2's would be great, but those aren't available in 2230 form factor. 2) I'd prefer a 4K screen, even at a lower refresh rate. I'm not into gaming. Otherwise, it looks like a fantastic machine. I'd prefer to trade off size and weight in favor of capability, but I'm probably an outlier.

I realize this is not critical, but like to stick to the same as the rest of the crowd in a KISS mode. :-) So, if you'll pick a default, I'll go on to the next step and report back for help at the next stumble :-) Oh Yes. I'd might be willing to talk a bit about it, but I have to check my availability. If any one else wants to step up for this or another topic, I'll step back with no worries what so ever. I'll see if I am available and get back ASAP. Is embedded linux (primarily PPC) interesting to the masses? Some topics I could expound on are: * Cross development vs Local Development * Linux as en embedded OS (Kernels, modules, flash filesystems, pitfalls) * Designing Embedded Linux Clusters * Application considerations on embedded linux Anything else people might find more interesting? > > Chuck > > On Thu, 6 Jan 2005 01:26:29 -0500, Andy Stewart <andystewart(a)comcast.net> wrote: > > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > > Hash: SHA1 > > > > HI gang, > > > > We have a WLUG meeting coming up on Thurs Jan 13 - any thoughts on what topic > > we should explore? Reminder: Meeting April 18th. Topic: Open Broadcast System Location: Stratton Hall Rm 106

by Tim Keller

Hey Everybody, This Thursday at 7pm in Stratton Hall rm 106, wlug member Ian Gelman will be doing a talk about the Open Broadcast system. OBS (https://obsproject.com/) is free, open source software that allows you turn your Linux system into a powerful mobile TV studio. If you’ve watched any online content creators in the past couple of years, you’ve likely seen the software in action. In this talk, I’ll be giving an overview of what the software can do, as well as a case study on how OBS helped rocket a simple clementine to the top of the WPI subreddit. ( http://wpiwa.wpi.edu/clementine.html) We’ll finish up with a live demo where we’ll create a stream with some webcam footage, application displays, and an internet radio station. Snacks and Refreshments will be provided and afterwards we'll head off for dinner. Thanks, Tim. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".

This stuff is new to me, so wanted to dabble a bit before the meeting. My question is: what's your favorite editor for XML? My past experience with HTML has been with Mozilla editors in Windows, and I find them to be adequate (and free).
