We actually haven't done a round table in a while. David, I like your idea for the home automation / vision processing as well. I just went looking and there are 10+ companies that make linux based home automation products. I've messed with the the opencv stuff and my co worker is using it read his water meter and do OCR. Keith, it would be cool to have someone (other than me) talk about managing large amounts of data. Drop a line to your friend and see if they'd be willing to do a talk. I talked a bit about hadoop as well since I've been working with that. I could with some prep give a talk about hadoop if people were interested. I've also been playing with the parallel python stuff as well. My plan is to send out a reminder that the meeting is going to be next Thursday. It's a bit too soon to get anything put together on either of these topics, but we should talk them through next Thursday and see if anybody has more ideas as well. Thanks, Tim. Topic for future meeting.

Hi all, I wanted to intorduce myself. I have been on the LUG list now for over a year, but 2 kids 22 mo and 5 mo old have kept me away from metings. I am by no means a speaker although I have given a presentation at conferences and a LUG. I know there is a constant call for topics. I was wondering if anyone was interested in one of the following 3 topics: 1) Linux Development on the Nokia 770. I have had one for a few months now and know quite a bit about it and the state of affairs. 2) Hacking NAS storage with the Kurobox (www.kurobox.com) An very interesting device with a sordid history 3) VERY tentitive. Developing Robotic applications on Linux for the iRobot Create. I should be able to get my hands on one of these along with some example code and show the capabilities of the iRobot Create (http://www.irobot.com/create) I could also combine 1 and 2 and talk of the general aspects of embedded Linux development. I have been active in this field for about 6 years now. Any takers? Thanks Brian

Meeting Dec 8th at 7pm: Topic: Personal RPZ

Hey Gang, Long time member Eric Martin has graciously stepped up to do another talk. This time it'll be about setting up a personal RPZ server. We all know we'll be setting lots of new devices up in the coming month... RPZ is basically a "spam" filter for your DNS. It works to keep your devices from gong to sites infected with malware and "jam the lock" of any existing mailware from getting back to it's command and control. Eric will give an overview and explain a quick and dirty on how to set one up. Time: 7pm Location: Campus Center Rm 301 (Haggland Rm. It's on the same floor as the Mid Century room we're normally in, only at the top of the stairs take a right instead of a left. We're still waiting for confirmation After that we'll head down to Tech Pizza. As usual snacks and refreshments will be provided. I've been exploring HTML5 3D scene rendering. It appears to make good use of gpgpu acceleration. WebGL and Three.js are amongst the more mature. http://threejs.org/ http://stemkoski.github.io/Three.js/ http://threejs.org/examples/ http://threejs.org/examples/#webgl_custom_attributes_points3 The speed of development and resulting performance is orders of magnitude better than historical methods. I am no expert, but it is a remarkable technology. I intend to use it to develop and make dynamic presentations. It is not specific to Linux, but it is supported there. Is it worth using a wlug session on this subject? Just a self-serving thought.
