We covered kernel compiling, initrd, kernel modules, and grub/lilo as it pertains to pointing to the kernel image to boot. There was a discussion on frame buffers as well. I thought the meeting went well. I also gave away quite a few Ubuntu Linux CDs which were recently sent to me. I have many more left, so if you want some for yourself and/or your friends, let me know! If you came to the meeting and couldn't find us, I apologize. We moved to a different room at the very last minute due to a scheduling conflict. This new room worked out pretty well since there weren't that many of us, although we do like the Access Grid room much better due to its amenities and size. :-) Later, Andy - -- Andy Stewart, Founder Worcester Linux Users' Group Worcester, MA, USA http://www.wlug.org -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.5 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFCZyTRHl0iXDssISsRAo14AJ4tLExjqSjKk6OamXOs9adyLAI2gwCfUt24 pYjRNk+qgS+YtBglkHJBpE4= =oE/f -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Re: Sorry about the A/V issues last night on Jitsi..

I'm not sure I believe that. > We may have to explore a different platform for the virtual meetings.. I'm not sure I want that. There have been many times when jitsi worked well and times when roughness was clearly because the microphone was too far from the person speaking and somebody in the next room was using a jack hammer. To aid debugging here is my report: When I first got into the meeting, I could neither hear nor speak. Somebody fixed something and I could hear the meeting, but still could not speak. This was definitely a problem on my end. I went a "settings" menu where you choose whether to use the built-in microphone or the one on the headset. I had already chosen (correctly) the headset, but this time I noticed a scroll bar on the side and when I scrolled down it revealed a volume control which was set to zero. When I set it to one I could be heard. For a while it all worked well. Kevin gave a Very Impressive demo. Then you decided to change things around. I think I heard someone say something like "you need to use the microphone that goes with that window". The sound cut off. I figured you were working on it, and said nothing. When Kevin resumed his demo I could not hear it. Several people complained via the text-based "chat". The little window with Kevin's pictrure had a "muted" icon (micrphone with slash thru). Nobody seemed to be watching the chat and it no longer worked when I tried shouting. I suspect that if anyone had noticed that Kevin had was muted and pressed the correct "unmute" button, all would have been good again. -- Keith

Wes, Almost time ... here's a small check list to keep in mind. -make sure you have all your data backed up. -you will have to install bootblaster before you get to the meeting because you need to install it with activesync, which i don't have. here's the web page http://familiar.handhelds.org/releases/v0.6.1/install/install-bootldr.html do the steps up to 'installing the bootldr'. (We'll do that at the meeting). - you may want to bring your laptop with ppp and minicom installed (i think you said you had one). Once we have linux install i can set up ppp for you so you can talk to your ipaq from linux. I think that's it, let me know if you have any questions. --brad

I tried it when it came out and it didn't really seem to simplify installation at all. It was just a graphical representation of the actions normally performed on the command-line. Re: [Wlug] Wlug Digest, Vol 106, Issue 5

by Karl Lind

Hi Chuck, It doesn't have to be 2 HDMI compatible outputs. It just came to me that the Pi has a composite video and a stereo audio out port too. One of each would be super as I have power supplies, keyboards and mice for both my Pi's. The four OS's (which might be overkill for time) that I plan to bring for the demo are Raspian (a Debian distro that is running a web server), Gentoo, Fedora and OpenELEC (an XBMC type distro). Also if possible Ethernet access?
