To aid debugging here is my report: When I first got into the meeting, I could neither hear nor speak. Somebody fixed something and I could hear the meeting, but still could not speak. This was definitely a problem on my end. I went a "settings" menu where you choose whether to use the built-in microphone or the one on the headset. I had already chosen (correctly) the headset, but this time I noticed a scroll bar on the side and when I scrolled down it revealed a volume control which was set to zero. When I set it to one I could be heard. For a while it all worked well. Kevin gave a Very Impressive demo. Then you decided to change things around. I think I heard someone say something like "you need to use the microphone that goes with that window". The sound cut off. I figured you were working on it, and said nothing. When Kevin resumed his demo I could not hear it. Several people complained via the text-based "chat". The little window with Kevin's pictrure had a "muted" icon (micrphone with slash thru). Nobody seemed to be watching the chat and it no longer worked when I tried shouting. I suspect that if anyone had noticed that Kevin had was muted and pressed the correct "unmute" button, all would have been good again. -- Keith

Hi Chuck, It doesn't have to be 2 HDMI compatible outputs. It just came to me that the Pi has a composite video and a stereo audio out port too. One of each would be super as I have power supplies, keyboards and mice for both my Pi's. The four OS's (which might be overkill for time) that I plan to bring for the demo are Raspian (a Debian distro that is running a web server), Gentoo, Fedora and OpenELEC (an XBMC type distro). Also if possible Ethernet access? Wes, Almost time ... here's a small check list to keep in mind. -make sure you have all your data backed up. -you will have to install bootblaster before you get to the meeting because you need to install it with activesync, which i don't have. here's the web page http://familiar.handhelds.org/releases/v0.6.1/install/install-bootldr.html do the steps up to 'installing the bootldr'. (We'll do that at the meeting). - you may want to bring your laptop with ppp and minicom installed (i think you said you had one). Once we have linux install i can set up ppp for you so you can talk to your ipaq from linux. I think that's it, let me know if you have any questions. --brad

I tried it when it came out and it didn't really seem to simplify installation at all. It was just a graphical representation of the actions normally performed on the command-line. A rich set of edit and retouch functions is available. Import RAW files and edit with deep color. Save revised images as JPEG, PNG (8/16 bits/color), or TIFF (8/16). Select an object or area within an image (freehand draw, follow edges, flood matching tones...), apply edit functions, copy and paste, resize, blend, warp, etc. without using layers. Edit functions have fast feedback using the full image or selected zoom-in area. Edit image metadata (tags, geotags, dates, ratings, captions...). Search images using any combination of metadata and file and folder names or partial names. Click a marker on a scalable world map to view all photos from that location. Batch functions are available to rename, add/revise metadata, copy/move, resize, convert format. Fotoxx uses your image files wherever they are and maintains a separate index for fast searching. Fotoxx is standards compliant and can be used with other photo programs (no lock-in). Fotoxx is easy to use but unconventional, so read the user guide (at least the first few pages) before jumping in. Fotoxx has deep functionality. Do not expect to master it in a few minutes. Along with the presentation, as usual expect the usual amount of banter about all things Linux/FOSS/etc. Definitely some talk about mdadm..which I'm sure will digress into a weird demo... Are there any shipping ARM boards/chips for the consumer market? Quick look just shows a few ATX server boards with, relatively, ancient ARMs bundled. The stuff Apple is shipping has the same T2 "problem" the later intel machines have with running linux, it's kind of a pain, delicate, and ruins the point of having the hardware security in the first place. It'd be amazing if they'd work on 1st party support but considering their business model I don't see that ever happening. On the server side, I'm loving ARM. I saw the revolution coming back when AWS Graviton was first announced. Pushed a lot of things at work over early. With go binaries it's as simple as a compile flag. Graviton2 offerings were ~1/3 off the equivalent intel machines for EC2, similar discount for lambda. For some of our workloads they were faster than intel too. Haven't had occasion to test the grav3 stuff but I imagine it's better still.
