I have a laptop that I want to do a Gentoo install on. We could use that for showing a stage3 "fast" install and switch to Mike's small form factor for post-install. I also have a small form factor PC I could bring in that has Gentoo on it if necessary. I think discussing what makes Gentoo unique, its pros and cons, will be great. If we're going to discuss why distro is better (or worse) than other than I say Debian. I say this because the "pretty" distros (SuSe, Mandrake, Fedora) are too different for a fair comparison. I also say this because I switched to Gentoo after trying a little bit of Debian. I'm thinking one of those VIA Epia motherboards (1ghz, fan less) with a pair of big disks mirrored would be a good home NAS box, esp with a SCSI controller, my DLT tape drive and bacula. The only issue is Mysql performance on disks like this, since Bacula is heavy on the DB. Putting in four disks, two RAID1 sets, could work wonders. But gets a bit crazy. :] John

Zeek - from yesterday's meeting

Guys, I'm looking into Zeek and unfortunately I don't have a second ethernet port on my main system, so it's not clear how I'd run a span port off my main switch to grab traffic. What hardware do people recommend for a zeek data collection node? I guess I could spin up my old WRAP board (http://www.pcengines.ch) which I used as my main router for years before I replaced it recently. But it's not super fast. It's got three 1gb ports, and 4gb of RAM with a 1Ghz single core AMD CPU. So it might do the job, esp since I can install Debian Buster on there without too much trouble. Sweet! John

Since everyone else and their close family members are giving away hardware, I wanted to make sure I offered the stuff I have available ... Has anyone here built a jitsi server?

Has anyone here built a functional jitsi server? I tried today, with a fresh Debian-10 install and the jitsi "quick-install" method: https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-meet/blob/master/doc/quick-install.md It didn't work. jitsi logs indicated a java problem; I had neither the time nor really the inclination to debug their "stable" install. My two test-laptops were able to connect to meet.jit.si and communicated with eachother using the "free" jitsi server, but when the same two laptops were connected to the server I'd just built, the two failed to connect. I'll try again tomorrow. The next immediate challenge will be purging the traces of the failed first experiment from the system. --MCV.

From the WPI Library Parking Lot to Atwater Kent 233: Go up the 103 stairs on the LEFT SIDE of the library until you reach the front entrance of the Gordon Library. When facing the library, turn left and walk on the road which goes slightly downhill. Salisbury Labs will be on your left. You will approach a building on your right called Fuller Labs. Go past that building. The road curves to the left. You will then see the Atwater Kent building on your right. Enter that building and go upstairs. AK233 is up there somewhere.
