My $0.02... I think the mailing list should be like the meetings - if someone at a meeting says "hey, $COMPANY has this opening doing Linux sysadmin/programming/etc.", great. But if some random recruiter walks into the room without any introductions and starts blabbing about jobs and how great his company is, I imagine they'd be told where to go. In any case (and to kick a dead horse from a few months ago), I think all job postings should be open to satire. If you're a recruiter and you post something that looks like an obvious death march[1], be prepared to have the euphemistic recruiter-speak appropriatly analyzed and made fun of. >:) -Jamie [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_march_(software_development)

We covered kernel compiling, initrd, kernel modules, and grub/lilo as it pertains to pointing to the kernel image to boot. There was a discussion on frame buffers as well. I thought the meeting went well. I also gave away quite a few Ubuntu Linux CDs which were recently sent to me. I have many more left, so if you want some for yourself and/or your friends, let me know! If you came to the meeting and couldn't find us, I apologize. We moved to a different room at the very last minute due to a scheduling conflict. To aid debugging here is my report: When I first got into the meeting, I could neither hear nor speak. Somebody fixed something and I could hear the meeting, but still could not speak. This was definitely a problem on my end. I went a "settings" menu where you choose whether to use the built-in microphone or the one on the headset. I had already chosen (correctly) the headset, but this time I noticed a scroll bar on the side and when I scrolled down it revealed a volume control which was set to zero. When I set it to one I could be heard. For a while it all worked well. Kevin gave a Very Impressive demo. Then you decided to change things around. I think I heard someone say something like "you need to use the microphone that goes with that window". The sound cut off. I figured you were working on it, and said nothing. When Kevin resumed his demo I could not hear it. Several people complained via the text-based "chat". The little window with Kevin's pictrure had a "muted" icon (micrphone with slash thru). Nobody seemed to be watching the chat and it no longer worked when I tried shouting. I suspect that if anyone had noticed that Kevin had was muted and pressed the correct "unmute" button, all would have been good again. -- Keith
