From what I've read, the role of Fedora won't really change. Here's my understanding of what the plan is: - Fedora: unchanged. This is basically the playground for what RedHat will one day become. Every once in a while, they pick a Fedora release, and use it as the foundation for the next RHEL release. For example, RHEL 8 was based off of Fedora 28. - CentOS Stream: despite sharing the name, this is something completely new. It appears to basically be a pre-release of candidate updates that are slated for full release into the RHEL channels. Think of it as pre-release, but post-beta. - RHEL: unchanged. The commercial release we all know, and some of us love. - CentOS: gone. The old CentOS that was designed as a binary compatible, bug for bug match of RHEL, is no more. I wouldn't mind seeing some stuff on embedded linux development. Maybe get anyone who has done some to talk about it's pros and cons. I know I've done a bit of embedded programming with Arcom Linux and QNX. Date/Time: April 18th, 2019 @7pm Location: WPI Stratton Hall Rm 106 Topic: Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) Presenter: Ian Gelman OBS (https://obsproject.com/) is free, open source software that allows you turn your Linux system into a powerful mobile TV studio. If you’ve watched any online content creators in the past couple of years, you’ve likely seen the software in action. In this talk, I’ll be giving an overview of what the software can do, as well as a case study on how OBS helped rocket a simple clementine to the top of the WPI subreddit. Meeting Tonight, March 14th 2024. Topic: "self hosting"

Time: 7pm. Date: March 14th 2024 Location: Technocopia 44 Portland St. Worcester MA. Virtual Location: hopefully hosted independently, but at https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA For now.. We are increasingly living in a world where our data isn't ours anymore. Everything is a service being hosted by some entity, subjected to the whims of that entity. Come to love some service? They're discontinuing it. Your data? They're using it to train some AI that you don't control. Functionality? Ever changing.. Costs? To change without warning and your data is now hostage. To that end.. What are people doing? What would people like to do? What options are out there? What's worked in the past and now doesn't? There's also SOAF "significant other acceptance factor" to consider.. If you own the data but it's so horrific to manage that it sends everybody around you fleeing back to some service, that's no good either. I expect this to be a pretty lively debate. As usual, we'll head out for dinner and continue the conversation. I'll have snacks and refreshments available. Thanks, Tim.
