WLUG Meeting: Oct 10th 2019 Topic: CAD on linux!

Hey Everybody, We've got a meeting next week! Date & Time: Oct 10th, 2019 at 7PM Location: WPI Rec Center Room Rom 412 (Class of '61 conference room) Topic: Round table on CAD software for linux. This month we're going to talk about the plethora of FOSS and otherwise options for doing Computer Aided Drafting on linux. Logan Brown has offered to speak about OpenSCAD Frank Sweetser will be talking about TinkerCAD I will be talking about FreeCAD We'll also gloss over LeoCAD and a few other cad products as well. This is a round table, so if you have a piece of cad software on linux you love feel free to speak up! Refreshments and Snacks will be provided and afterwards we'll head off for dinner. WLUG Meeting TONIGHT! Feb. 16th 2017 Rm 331 (Hagglund) iscsi / gfs2 / filesystems / etc!

Hey Gang, Our rescheduled meeting is tonight! Feb 16th @ 7pm. The location is changed a bit, we're going to be in the Hagglund Rm (rm 301) in the student center. Go to the top of the stairs and go to the right instead of left. I'm going to be speaking about storage protocols, ending up on iscsi. I'm then going to talk about gfs2 in particular and then show gfs2 working across two nodes. We're also going to talk in general about filesystems, LVM, partitioning, etc. I expect that latter topic is going to be come a general group topic. There will be snacks and refreshments (coke only) and afterwards we'll head down to Tech Pizza! Hey Gang, This is reminder that on Thursday Feb. 9th at 7pm, we've got a WLUG Meeting! Time/Date: See above Location: WPI Student Center Mid Century Room (rm 331) Topic: GFS2 / Clustered Filesystems (and associated technologies) I'm going to be speaking about the clustering filesystem GFS2 as well as the associated infrastructure to provide shared disk to multiple hosts. So this talk is going to be about the filesystem but also about iscsi/iser/fb/IB. This will be momentary deep dive into iscsi and then we'll come up for air and talk about GFS2. There will be refreshments and snacks provided and then we'll head down for pizza. I've heard there might be weather, we'll play it by ear. I'd be willing to give a talk on Linux virtualization beyond Virtualbox if anyone's interested. Meeting over the Access Grid?

As a few of you may already know, WPI has just recently installed an Access Grid Node. For those of you who have never heard of the Access Grid project, it's a completely immersive video conferencing system - like traditional videoconferencing, but arranged such that the technology portion becomes invisible, and you can converse with others as if they were in the same room. More details at http://www.accessgrid.org/ My idea was that if we could find a couple of remote sites with people who might be interested in joining us, we could have a meeting over the Access Grid. A list of other Access Grid sites is up at http://www-fp.mcs.anl.gov/fl/accessgrid/nodes.htm and includes BU at least. If anyone knows anyone else at any of these sites who would be interested, we can start seeing about scheduling the time needed in all of the spaces. -- Frank Sweetser fs at wpi.edu WPI Network Engineer
