Hey Everybody! We have a WLUG meeting on Sept. 15th at 7PM! Here are the vitals: Location: Washburn Labs Rm *323* @7pm (NOTE room 323 not 232!) Speaker: William Temple Topic: Container technologies... The speaker for this meeting is William Temple. Here's what he recently posted to the list (if you didn't already see it) Thanks for inviting me to give a talk on containers this Thursday. I'm a Senior at WPI and spent the last two summers working on container technologies at Red Hat under the Project Atomic/OpenShift banners. If you all are interested, topics for discussion could be: - Containers 101: Introduction & Motivations - Container Technologies -- docker -- Open Containers Initiative -- LXC, rkt, and others - Container Implementation -- namespaces -- cgroups -- security implications, comparison to Virtual Machines - Containers in Production (Kubernetes, etc.) - Containers in Consumer Environments (Flatpak, Snappy, etc.) If there are any other container-related topics you'd like to hear about, please just let me know and I can work them in. I'm mostly familiar with the Docker/OCI & Kubernetes orchestration stack, so I won't be able to go into technical details about other systems, but can give an overview if someone else wants to get into the weeds about any other container systems. I'd like to thank Logan for getting this organized and for William for being accomidating of our location and schedule change. As always, there will be refreshments and snacks and we'll head to Tech Pizza afterwards! Great question! It turns out I have a conflict on both the 12th and the 19th. So I'm cool with having it on another day.. I know people have scouts and stuff, I'd even be cool with the 26th. Reminder: Meeting tonight! Topic: TBD! Open Forum, etc.

Hey Everybody, We've got a meeting tonight! Location: WPI Campus Center Room 304 (Peterson Conference Room) Topic: TBD, open forum, etc. I'm going to show off Visual Studio Code for Linux running on my laptop with the emacs, git and python integrations I've been using. That'll probably be pretty quick and then we can open it up to a general discussion around what's going on in linux, what people are interested in and what people would like to see for topics. There will possibly be some new people since I've created the Meetup site. Snacks and refreshments will be provided and we'll head off for dinner afterwards. It seems that everyone now needs them to do Artifical Intelligence (all rise). Have they changed their attitude, or is it like: "Here's your AI. Pay the monthly bill to retain your licence to use it. Any attempt to try to find out what it does or how it works will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law of Connecticut."? -- Keith

There is a Windows version and a Linux version (several distribution packages as well) available for download here: http://accessgrid.org/ The software normally requires an IP Multicast capable ISP, but there is a built in Unicast Bridge functionality which will convert the streams--just select "Use Unicast" from the virtual venue properties. I don't think this will work from behind a NAT, though, but you can try forwarding all the necessary ports (a lot of ports) or using a DMZ port on your router. If anyone would like to try this, feel free to contact me and I'll help you get set up.

Hi! When is the meeting? BTW, I have *piles* of (mostly Dell) hardware for sale (donation? either is overly complicated..). Everything from an old Dimension E530 desktop to a Poweredge R515 with 12TB of internal disk (both already running CentOS 6.10). A whole roomfull of Optiplex 740s and 580s, an R300, two R415s, etc. In a few weeks I'll also have a couple of Synology RS2416+ units with expansion chassis. I can forward a complete list if anyone is interested. Most of the equipment is in Worcester, where I work. Stay safe! I would love to set up a mythbox sometime this summer or fall, when I have cable again. Are there any distributions that are not all manual for setting it up? I want to be able to just make it work, and hack on it later if I want to change the default config. I remember it being a pain to build.
