Hey Linux Enthusiasts, Are we having a meeting next week? There are plenty of interesting stuff going on lately: Valve, one of the major distributors of games for PC is moving towards Linux, and just joined the Linux Foundation - http://thenextweb.com/insider/2013/12/04/valve-joins-linux-foundation-prepa… - This is also pushing AMD/Nvidia to push for better graphics drivers. Interesting bits from Kernel 3.13 - http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTUxNTk -F2FS a filesystem made only for Flash file systems. - I am particularly skeptical about the "There's now NFTables as the eventual replacement to IPTables." Dec Meeting announcement / linux-raid problem

I just realized that I haven't received anything from WLUG in over a month, including the announcement for this past meeting. Did anybody else have this problem or is it just me? Now, the main reason for my email. My mythbox / home file server runs linux soft-raid in RAID5 with 3 500GB disks. One disk went bad a while ago and the array never rebuilt itself. The other day, the second disk went bad. Am I hosed? I've been googling for 'rebuild bad linux software raid' but all I get is the rebuild command. Also, I don't see any tools that will move bad data to another spot on the disk. This is my first time using software raid so I'm in a bit over my head. thanks! -- Eric Martin

Jon "maddog" Hall is the Chairman of the Board of the Linux Professional Institute, and the President of Linux International. While not a founding member of LPI, maddog helped formulate some of the concepts and donated personal money to allow the first 200 tests be tested for psychometrics. Speaker: William Temple Topic: Container technologies... The speaker for this meeting is William Temple. Here's what he recently posted to the list (if you didn't already see it) Thanks for inviting me to give a talk on containers this Thursday. I'm a Senior at WPI and spent the last two summers working on container technologies at Red Hat under the Project Atomic/OpenShift banners. If you all are interested, topics for discussion could be: - Containers 101: Introduction & Motivations - Container Technologies -- docker -- Open Containers Initiative -- LXC, rkt, and others - Container Implementation -- namespaces -- cgroups -- security implications, comparison to Virtual Machines - Containers in Production (Kubernetes, etc.) - Containers in Consumer Environments (Flatpak, Snappy, etc.) If there are any other container-related topics you'd like to hear about, please just let me know and I can work them in. I'm mostly familiar with the Docker/OCI & Kubernetes orchestration stack, so I won't be able to go into technical details about other systems, but can give an overview if someone else wants to get into the weeds about any other container systems. I'd like to thank Logan for getting this organized and for William for being accomidating of our location and schedule change. Hey Everybody, We've got a meeting tonight! Location: WPI Campus Center Room 304 (Peterson Conference Room) Topic: TBD, open forum, etc. I'm going to show off Visual Studio Code for Linux running on my laptop with the emacs, git and python integrations I've been using. That'll probably be pretty quick and then we can open it up to a general discussion around what's going on in linux, what people are interested in and what people would like to see for topics. There will possibly be some new people since I've created the Meetup site. Snacks and refreshments will be provided and we'll head off for dinner afterwards. It seems that everyone now needs them to do Artifical Intelligence (all rise). Have they changed their attitude, or is it like: "Here's your AI. Pay the monthly bill to retain your licence to use it. Any attempt to try to find out what it does or how it works will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law of Connecticut."? -- Keith
