Reminder: WLUG Meeting Thursday 7 PM

by Andy Stewart

HI Everybody, Our next WLUG meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 17th at 7:00 PM in the Access Grid room at the WPI campus in Worcester, MA USA. Let's hope it doesn't snow this time....... :-) Our guest speaker will be Scott Venier, a long time WLUG member, who will be discussing Vesta, a software configuration management system. Vesta is a portable SCM system targeted at supporting development of software systems of almost any size, from fairly small (under 10,000 source lines) to very large (10,000,000 source lines). It is both a revision control system and a build system. Vesta provides full automatic dependency detection and guarantees exact repeatability of any build. See ya there! Reminder: WLUG Meeting THIS Thursday (2/21/2017): Topic: AWX

by Tim Keller

Hey Everybody, We've got a meeting on Wednesday Location: Fuller Labs, Beckett Conference Room, RM 246 Time: 7PM Topic: AWX and Ansible. AWX is the open source upstream version of Ansible Tower. This is a system that automates the running of ansible playbooks on hosts. What's ansible? Ansible is a management and configuration system for installing / modifying and maintaining linux/unix machines. What's cooler is that AWX can natively use git to manage configs. I'll talk about ansible, playbooks and then AWX. As usual, snacks and refreshments will be provided and we'll head off for dinner afterwards to continue to conversation. Thanks, Tim. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".

I've been playing around with my MP3 player and trying to make it work on my server. It works fine on my laptop. The MP3 player is a usb_storage device (iAudio G3). I didn't hack any drivers, nor have I ever. I had thought that perhaps I could start a discussion of this topic, where folks would kick in their 2 cents worth, and collectively we'd come away with more knowledge about using Linux and USB. Its just a thought - I'm not sure anybody is interested, or perhaps this is old hat to most of you. Since we have an upcoming meeting on Sept. 8th, I'm looking for ideas, and thought this might be one. Absolutely. Though will Technocopia allow us to spin it up and let it rip? :-)
