Hi WLUG members, It's that time a year again for the WLUG BBQ! Thanks to Doug Mildram for hosting again this year. HI all, There is currently no scheduled speaker or topic for the August WLUG meeting. If you would like to do this talk, I think it would be great. I'm curious as to what you would like to cover, or what others might like to see covered. Let me seed the conversation bu suggesting the following possibilities: 1) Supported DVD players 2) What software, kernel, apps, etc needed to use DVD 3) DVD-ROM - just like a CDROM, but bigger - anything special or funny here? 4) DVD-RAM - now there's an idea 5) Video DVD - can I watch The Matrix while coding? :-) These are just thoughts and suggestions....are there others? One of my favorite anecdotes is from one of our installfests at Stratus where Doug Wade tripped over the power cord *just* as the install had finished, but before the MBR/LILO could be written to the disk. It was cool to see a bunch of linux hackers stand around and get Mandrake to properly boot on this persons machine. Good times. Tim. I blame a lack of sleep... Time/Date: March 14th, 2019 @ 7PM. Location: WPI Student Center Mid Century Room (Rm 331) Topic: Containerized applications Appimage, snaps, flatpacks... I plan to talk about what they are and what they do and compare/contrast the different technologies used to make applications distribution agnostic. Vesta is a portable SCM system targeted at supporting development of software systems of almost any size, from fairly small (under 10,000 source lines) to very large (10,000,000 source lines). Hey Everybody, We've got a meeting on Wednesday Location: Fuller Labs, Beckett Conference Room, RM 246 Time: 7PM Topic: AWX and Ansible. AWX is the open source upstream version of Ansible Tower. This is a system that automates the running of ansible playbooks on hosts. What's ansible? Ansible is a management and configuration system for installing / modifying and maintaining linux/unix machines. What's cooler is that AWX can natively use git to manage configs. I'll talk about ansible, playbooks and then AWX. As usual, snacks and refreshments will be provided and we'll head off for dinner afterwards to continue to conversation.
