Reminder: Next Meeting Nov 9th, 2023! Location: Technocopia

by Tim Keller

Hey Everybody! We've got a wlug meeting at Technocopia on Thursday Nov 9th, 2023. I had hoped to have a pi5 and be using it as my daily driver, but I've been foiled in that attempt. Another option if people would be interested in it, I could bring my desktop cnc mill. My whole goal has been to use as much FOSS as possible in the entire toolpath so I'm not entangled with a particular company that might go out of business. If this is something people might be interested in, let me know. Thanks, Tim. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".

Chuck, Where will this meeting be held? My current demo setup is two pcs... I'm probably going to need help depending on where we have it. Thanks, Tim. Hmmm. Maybe not in WPI donated meeting space? Chuck? Perhaps the post-meeting pizza & beer could be switched to a BYOB venue? West Side Steak & BBQ is BYOB, but a little far to walk from campus. Re: [Wlug] Meeting this Thu?

by Christopher Thompson

BTW, I see an earlier offer from Logan that his roommate William Temple might give a talk on containers. I'd personally be interested in that, particularly if it gets into LXC or, say, the oft-underlying technology of cgroups. --Chris On 09/05/2016 05:55 PM, Christopher Thompson wrote: > Hi All! > > Been a good while since I've been able to come along, but I have a > possible opportunity to ride along there with a new friend. Great meeting last night!

by Tim Keller

Having our own Jitsi instance was fantastic! Jansen got into ollama AI stuff and it was really cool. He's expressed interest in doing a full end to end demo. We talked about the xz explot and it's entanglement with systemd and OpenSSH. It was a great conversation about the history and missteps of systemd and how we got to this place where so many pieces of critical software in the FOSS are supported by just a few people. Next month's meeting will need to be moved around as it conflicts with something, I'll give more details as I learn them. MEETING DATE CHANGE!!! May 17th!

by Tim Keller

Talking with Frank, because of commencement, I'm moving the meeting to May 17th. Sorry for any confusion! Date: May 17th, 2018 Time: 7pm Location: Campus Center Mid Century Room 331 (our usual spot) Topic: Future of WLUG mailing list and website I've recently been tinkering with Digital Ocean and it might be a sensible spot where we can host wlug.org and the mailing list. Also I can show off MFA authenication of ssh sessions (likely on a digtial oceans droplet) As usual I'll have refreshments and snacks and we'll head off for dinner (and maybe dessert!) and continue the conversation. Thanks, Tim. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".

Re: [Wlug] REMINDER NO MEETING TONIGHT!!!

by Richard Klein

Thanks for the reminder! I've still got it on my calendar for tonight. It's probably been covered before, but I'd love to know more about Docker and VMs, if we need subjects. It's stuff I haven't had time to explore on my own. Re: [Wlug] Meeting this week???

by Henrique

Hey, I finished reading the "Java NIO," which is about Java's new I/O, and "Hadoop," a database which Facebook uses to handle 21Petabytes of information which was originally based on Google's MapReduce papers (Also started reading a book on C#/.NET) and I would happy to make a presentation about the technologies. Happy new year, Henrique "nican" Polido. On Sun, Jan 8, 2012 at 9:11 PM, Tim Keller <turbofx(a)gmail.com> wrote: > Hey gang, > > Are we going to have a meeting this week?
