Reminder: Next Meeting Nov 9th, 2023! Location: Technocopia

Hey Everybody! We've got a wlug meeting at Technocopia on Thursday Nov 9th, 2023. I had hoped to have a pi5 and be using it as my daily driver, but I've been foiled in that attempt. Another option if people would be interested in it, I could bring my desktop cnc mill. My whole goal has been to use as much FOSS as possible in the entire toolpath so I'm not entangled with a particular company that might go out of business. Hey Everybody, This is a reminder we've got a meeting on Thursday Sept. 13th, 2018. Time: 7pm Location: WPI Campus Center Mid Century Rm (rm 331) "The usual spot" Topic: git LFS (Large File Support) I thought I would give a quick talk using git as a backup solution for larger files. After that I figured the conversation would branch out. I'd also like to poll the group and see what people would be interested in for topics. As usual snacks and refreshments will be provided and we'll head off to dinner afterwards to continue the conversation. Jon "maddog" Hall is the Chairman of the Board of the Linux Professional Institute, and the President of Linux International. Since 1969, Mr. Hall has been a programmer, systems designer, systems administrator, product manager, technical marketing manager, author and educator. He currently works as an independent consultant, and is involved with bringing environmentally friendly computing to emerging marketplaces as well as working on performance and educational issues with Free and Open Source Software via the Linaro Association. He is also closely aligned with LeMaker, a design center located in Shengen, China. While not a founding member of LPI, maddog helped formulate some of the concepts and donated personal money to allow the first 200 tests be tested for psychometrics. Mr. Hall has worked for such companies as Western Electric Corporation, Aetna Life and Casualty, Bell Laboratories, Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), VA Linux Systems, SGI, Futura Networks (Campus Party) and Linaro. BTW, I see an earlier offer from Logan that his roommate William Temple might give a talk on containers. Great meeting last night!

Having our own Jitsi instance was fantastic! Jansen got into ollama AI stuff and it was really cool. He's expressed interest in doing a full end to end demo. We talked about the xz explot and it's entanglement with systemd and OpenSSH. It was a great conversation about the history and missteps of systemd and how we got to this place where so many pieces of critical software in the FOSS are supported by just a few people. Next month's meeting will need to be moved around as it conflicts with something, I'll give more details as I learn them. Hey, I finished reading the "Java NIO," which is about Java's new I/O, and "Hadoop," a database which Facebook uses to handle 21Petabytes of information which was originally based on Google's MapReduce papers (Also started reading a book on C#/.NET) and I would happy to make a presentation about the technologies.
