HI Everybody, This is a reminder about the upcoming WLUG meeting which will be held on Thursday, Feb. 10th at 7:00 PM in the usual place. Our guest speaker will be Scott Venier, a long time WLUG member, who will be discussing Vesta, a software configuration management system. Vesta is a portable SCM system targeted at supporting development of software systems of almost any size, from fairly small (under 10,000 source lines) to very large (10,000,000 source lines). It is both a revision control system and a build system. Vesta provides full automatic dependency detection and guarantees exact repeatability of any build. See ya there! WLUG MEETING: April 16th, 2003

Hi everybody, I'd like to tantalize you with an announcement about the next meeting. :-) It will be held on Wednesday, April 16th at 7:00 PM in "the usual place". WLUG member Tim Keller will be discussing how he took Linux and other Open Source software to create his own Digital Video Recorder (DVR) similar to a TiVO. Tim will describe just what a DVR is and how it works. Tim will also discuss software issues, and finally will perform a live demo. I've just updated the website. REMINDER: Meeting Wed 18-sept-2002 7:00 PM

HI Everybody, My apologies for not sending this out sooner, but our meeting for Wednesday evening is going to take place at 7:00 PM in Kinnicutt Hall on the WPI campus like usual. We won't be having the install fest since I didn't get off my butt and make the arrangements (sorry!). I hope to do that tomorrow for a potential install fest in 1-2 weeks. I'll say more about that on Wed evening (that'll put the pressure on me to get this done!). I'll bring my laptop and hope that the projector is available (Chuck, can you assist?). I had thought of doing a demo of the VideoLan client/server. Doug, would you like to volunteer to bring your laptop? We'll need a hub and some cables to build a network. I'll be sure to have the necesary tarballs to make this work, or you can download them yourself if you wish. I'll bring a DVD or two and we can try it out. I had thought of doing this "live" like we did one other time. In case Doug can't make the meeting, having another laptop or two present might be interesting. Although the VideoLan client is interesting, I think the ability to stream the video over the net is pretty neat. I've done a lot of talking lately, but if people are interested, I've managed "figure" out freecad for the most part. Hey Everybody! We've got a wlug meeting at Technocopia on Thursday Nov 9th, 2023. I had hoped to have a pi5 and be using it as my daily driver, but I've been foiled in that attempt. Another option if people would be interested in it, I could bring my desktop cnc mill. My whole goal has been to use as much FOSS as possible in the entire toolpath so I'm not entangled with a particular company that might go out of business. I found a way to make a recording and recorded a short speech, which I could play back. It all seemed to work, but when I unplugged it and plugged it back in it required reconfiguration and I may have missed something and wound up using the built-in mike. The same USB headphone/mike seemed to work when attached to a Windows machine, but where's the fun in that? I checked out early in disgust. Suggestions on how to debug the mike might be helpful. -- Keith
