Hey Gang, Our next meeting will be on October 12th at 7pm. I'm going to give a quick talk on Ansible. It's a handy tool I use for install software on LOTS of computers. I'll also talk about Ansible playbooks as well. After that I figure we can talk about things people might want as topics and then head down for pizza at Tech. Here we are, the last WLUG meeting for 2025! Time: 7PM Date: December 11th, 2025 Location: Technocopia, 44 Portland St. Worcester MA. Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA Topic: Gaming on Linux! I'm going to be showing off my bazzite powered gaming desktop (that my wife is going to be the primary driver on) In the past I've had lots of conversations with potential linux users that go something like "Linux is so cool, but about my games.." and then the conversation gets awkward. I know there's some complicated stuff going on at Steam, but one thing they have done as a company is really pushed the envelope for gaming on linux. Bazzite aims to be a distro that just has it all working out of the box and makes use of the silver/blue bootc environment to make the machine more resilient to novice linux users that might accidentally break something or lose power mid upgrade, etc. I'm sure it's going to be a lively discussion and there will be lots to talk about. I also know that Technocopia is doing a xmas party / maker swap so we'll want to be respectful to them as well. As always afterwards we'll head out for some dinner and keep the conversation going. The problem seemed to be in the software or configuration of my Thinpad with Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm) and Firefox ESR 102.15.1 of Sept 12, 2023. I thought I had tested it the day before. I found a way to make a recording and recorded a short speech, which I could play back. It all seemed to work, but when I unplugged it and plugged it back in it required reconfiguration and I may have missed something and wound up using the built-in mike. The same USB headphone/mike seemed to work when attached to a Windows machine, but where's the fun in that? I checked out early in disgust. Hey Gang, Our rescheduled meeting is going to be on Feb 16th @ 7pm. The location is changed a bit, we're going to be in the Hagglund Rm (rm 301) in the student center. I'm going to do my talk regarding storage protocols focusing on iscsi and doing a demo of gfs2. I might end up only being a talk as my laptop is currently misbehaving, but we'll see. Jitsi..

Last night it was brought to my attention that Jitsi has decided to become more "zoom" like. That sucks. Moreover, and I've noticed this as well, their free instance's performance is all over the place.. some meetings the performance is spot on, other meetings, like last night, it was not so great. There should be zero barriers to people joining the meeting. To this end, I'm going to explore what it's going to take to stand up my own Jitsi instance. Wlug Meeting March 15th, 2018

Topic: LUKS (Linux Unified Key Setup) LUKS is a system for setting up encrypted disks on linux. I'll give a talk and a demo.
