Hey Gang, Our rescheduled meeting is going to be on Feb 16th @ 7pm. The location is changed a bit, we're going to be in the Hagglund Rm (rm 301) in the student center. I'm going to do my talk regarding storage protocols focusing on iscsi and doing a demo of gfs2. I might end up only being a talk as my laptop is currently misbehaving, but we'll see. Jitsi..

Last night it was brought to my attention that Jitsi has decided to become more "zoom" like. That sucks. Moreover, and I've noticed this as well, their free instance's performance is all over the place.. some meetings the performance is spot on, other meetings, like last night, it was not so great. There should be zero barriers to people joining the meeting. To this end, I'm going to explore what it's going to take to stand up my own Jitsi instance. Likely hosted in some cloud provider with possibly a nice DNS entry. Thanks, Tim. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".

Wlug Meeting March 15th, 2018

Our next wlug meeting will be March 15th, 2018 @7pm. The location will be our usual haunt: WPI Mid Century Room Rm 331. Topic: LUKS (Linux Unified Key Setup) LUKS is a system for setting up encrypted disks on linux. I'll give a talk and a demo. By all means, if this is something you're actively using, feel free to chime in with your experiences both positive and negative. My problem was that, while I could hear other people (at least while they were near the microphone and the gloppita-gloppita machine was off) they could not hear me, except intermittently. Worse, it seemed that my laptop was generating noise and feedback, so people had to mute me so that they could hear each other. The problem seemed to be in the software or configuration of my Thinpad with Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm) and Firefox ESR 102.15.1 of Sept 12, 2023. I thought I had tested it the day before. I found a way to make a recording and recorded a short speech, which I could play back. It all seemed to work, but when I unplugged it and plugged it back in it required reconfiguration and I may have missed something and wound up using the built-in mike. The same USB headphone/mike seemed to work when attached to a Windows machine, but where's the fun in that? I checked out early in disgust. REMINDER!! Meeting TONIGHT! March 12th, 2015!

Hey Everybody, This is a reminder that tonight is WLUG! We'll be talking about the Raspberry Pi like devices that are now on the market and the amazing stuff we can do with them. Chuck is going to bring along a Pi like device to show off how open hardware helps speed along the innovation curve! We'll be meeting in the usual spot, the Mid-Century Room (rm-331) at 7pm.
