RE: [Wlug] The obligatory Apps CD...
I'm not sure what would be considered the "top" perl modules. if you goto cpan.perl.org they've got like 3000 perl modules to choose from... If Mike or someone feels inclined to make me a tarball of the "top 50" I'd gladly put them on the cd. As it stands this is what we've got. Alsa drivers, stable and development Kernel 2.4.17 rdesktop (lets you access windows 2000 terminal services) TightVNC (client and server) + docs UltraMaster RS101 StarOffice 5.2 (6.0 isn't available anymore...) Latest build of Wine gPhoto + libusb Mplayer / Xine / libdvdcss xmame acrobat gaim Mozilla Netscape Opera XMMS + lots of plugins ogg-vorbis (RC3) Java / flash / realplayer plugins for mozilla/netscape If people think I'm missing something, our you've got a killer app you think people should have... let me know. I've still got only got about 1/2 a cd. Tim, Star Office 6.0 isn't downloadable right now, but Open Office is. And the latest build of Open Office is actually further along in development than the 6.0 beta; I'd include that on any "killer apps" cd for sure. Wes On Thu, 2002-02-07 at 15:30, Keller, Tim wrote:

Well, they do list web stats there. I took a look at the search hits for 2001, grabbed the top 300 and from that, pulled only those for explicit modules, which yielded the below list of 54 in descending order of search-hit popularity (sorry Chip, I used awk to build it, not perl - guess ya can't teach this old dog new tricks. :-) Unfortunately, I'm not able to pull together a tarball tonight or attend Saturday, so if anyone else want's to take a stab... ...Oh well, thought so, still it is an interesting list nonetheless....
