I know there are some SCSI guru's on this list. One of my out of warranty drives died. (bad sectors) I'm replacing it. The old drive was SCSI-2 Wide(80pin). The SCSI interface listed in /proc/pci is: SCSI storage controller: Adaptec AHA-2940U/UW/D / AIC-7881U (rev 1). Will a Ultra160 80pin drive work? I'm pretty sure it does, just looking for verification. Anyone know for sure? It won't run at U160 speeds with that adapter, but it will work. On Mon, 13 Jan 2003 17:22:52 -0500 (EST) Karl Hiramoto <karl@zoop.org> wrote:

Yeah it says 160 bad blocks :-( And it's about 6 months past the end of the 3 year warranty :-( It still amazes me how well the warranty timing circuity works... ;-) Thanks all that answered. I just spent my $100 on a 10,000rpm 18G drive. On Mon, 13 Jan 2003, Bill Mills-Curran wrote:

Would "e2fsck -c <partition>" help to save your current drive?

I havent looked for a couple of weeks now but Ubid http://www.ubid.com had 36GB 10K ultra 160 drives for just over $100 and the 18GB for just under $100 I believe. They are an auction site and recently not as good as they once where but from time to time there are some good buys there. ~ Michael LaPointe ~ HorizonNet Communications ~ http://www.allLongdistance.com
