Re: Configuring Linux laptop for cable modem access???
Hi Gerrald, I don't know the answer directly, as I don't run RedHat on my systems at home. I'm forwarding this to the WLUG mailing list, as somebody there probably knows the answer. WLUG: Any thoughts on how to configure a laptop running RedHat 7.1 for access to the Charter Pipeline cable modem? Is there anything special with Charter Pipeline vs. any other cable modem? Please don't forget to cc: gsmith@caldera.com on this one. Thanks, Andy On Wednesday 12 December 2001 02:47 pm, you wrote:
Andy Stewart,
Can you tell me how I can configure my Red Hat 7.1 laptop, which has a Ethernet card, for a cable modem-Charter Pipeline?

When I helped a friend set up his box a few years ago w/ Charter, all I needed to do was have the interface configure via DHCP. He had some problems with the dhcpcd/pump (I forget which) in RH6.1, but an already overdue upgrade to 6.2 fixed it. I would imagine 7.x should work as well as 6.2. -- Randomly Generated Tagline: Um, it's like, uh ... did anyone see the movie `Tron'? -- Homer Simpson Treehouse of Horror VI

If Charter Pipeline uses DHCP, all you have to do is type netconf as root, go to Host name and IP network devices, and set Adaptor 1 (eth0) to Enabled and Dhcp.

I'd suggest that they use 'pump' to do their network configuration, it's easy and works fine. John
