I need a blue tooth interface for my PC, and wondering if anyone has any brands, or hardware chip sets to recommend. I will probably buy a USB or PCMCIA interface. Buying something USB though would allow me to use it in both my desktop and laptop, where only my laptop has PCMCIA. Bluetooth devices i want to hook too, claims it is something like rs-232 serial output over bluetooth, but i gota figure that out. After that i may try with a digicam or mobile phone. -- --- Karl Hiramoto <karl@hiramoto.org> http://karl.hiramoto.org/ Yahoo_IM = karl_hiramoto GTalk=karl.hiramoto@gmail.com ------

I've used a Belkin F8T001 v2.11 successfully, and transferred images from a Concord GoWireless camera, and a friend's mobile phone. <rant> I think it was a Motorola V557 (or similar), but it was on Cingular service, which doesn't disable BlueTooth OBEX features, unlike certain other services, http://www.nuclearelephant.com/papers/v710.html </rant> I also have an IOGear dongle that I use with a mouse in my living room setup, http://www.buy.com/prod/IOGear_Bluetooth_1_2_USB_Adapter_CL_2_Range_66FT_Fre... http://www.buy.com/prod/Kensington_PilotMouse_Mini_Bluetooth_72414/q/loc/101... I'm prety sure you can run any protocol (HID, serial, etc.) over the dongle. -Jamie

I got one for my Linux box and while it works, the access to my Motorola v505 sucks, at least it used to, I haven't tried it recently. But the bluetooth stack stuff is a pain to work with at times. Also, you either want to plug the USB bluetooth dongle directly into a powered USB port, or into a hub with power. I'd tell you which one I got, but it's plugged into a non-powered hub and not showing up with lsusb right now. Karl> I will probably buy a USB or PCMCIA interface. My apologies, but I've been sick this past week, so last night I crashed early and never checked my USB dongle for setup or anything. Maybe tonight if I get a chance. John
Ok, so I've finally gotten around to looking at my USB dongle. It's a Kensington Bluetooth USB Adapter. Model #33085, and it's worked well in my limited testing on a heavily updated Debian box, running fairly recent 2.6 kernels. It's about an inch and a quarter long, not including the USB plug part. Has a little light that goes on as well. Not a bad buy, just wish I had more use for it. John
