I'm thinking of moving the next meeting to Thursday of next week since we just had a meeting. Any objections? Thanks, Tim. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".

Not here. All days are much the same to me. But you remind me that I have been meaning to ask a question of the WLUG: Does anybody have thoughts on Linux-compatible printers? I have an HP Laserjet attached via parallel port to an old Linux machine running a CUPS server. (Common Unix Print system) It works, but they no longer make the print cartridges and the old ones are dryed out and printing grey ghosts all over that make it ugly and nearly unreadable. I print about a dozen pages/month of black and white Postscript or PDF documents, so I don't need speed. Color is just troublesome. I would like to continue to use CUPS through an ethernet cable with RJ-45 plugs. This is a test. I answered this question yesterday and asked one of my own. It was sent to the list, but did not come back to me as it usually does. Maybe Microsoft or Amazon didn't like the link I included. Does it work this time? -- Keith

I just saw (and answered!) your previous email. Let me know if you still have questions.
Our list server has that quirk, such that when you post a new item OR reply, everyone on the list except you gets a copy/email. I think. Probably? the code/coder decided that you'll know what you sent, and that you have faith in the list server. Also.... you can check the "archive". Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone! You did say: usually you get your own copy/email usually, so it seems a debate. I wouldn't know if tweaking the config to be more giving is an option.

Sorry, I got busy with stayin' alive.
I really like Brother printers, especially the laser ones.
Thanks for the good advice.
I just saw (and answered!) your previous email. Let me know if you still have questions.
Now my questions are about the wlug.org mail server. Where is it? Is somebody in wlug paying for it? Who owns it? Who has privilege to tweak it? Who installs the OS?

I don't know why you think that. It did not work like that in the past, and other mailing lists to which I subscribe do not do that.
Also.... you can check the "archive".
I never did that before. I have copies (at least I think I do) of all old mails on my own computers. But I did it yesterday and... The wlug.mailman3.com archive shows my post as Keith Wright 10 Mar 3:54 a.m. My own mail server log says: Mar 9 22:55:33 fcs19 postfix/smtp[19217]: A95CA218375: to=<wlug@lists.wlug.org>, relay=wlug.mailman3.com[144.76.103.132], delay=37, status=sent (250 2.0.0 Ok: queued as C75301747122) So a system of cables and computers running with GHz clocks took about 5hrs to archive a few hundred bytes. (Assuming the archive is in Eastern Standard Time.) I don't know exactly how long it took to deliver it to you, but this is in the headers of the message I finally got back: Received: from [172.22.0.5] (wlugmailman3com_mailman-core_1.wlugmailman3com_default [172.22.0.5]) by host.mailman3.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8EBB21747165; Sat, 11 Mar 2023 09:59:38 +0000 (UTC) The day after it hit the archive.

Toner cartridge is cheap enough. What model hp has discontinued them? With all the 3rd party toner providers, I'd be shocked to learn you're right.
It's a LaserJet 5MP. Feel free to tell me where I can get a new toner cartridge. I recently bought one from a re-seller, but it turned out to be about a decade past its expiration date and worse than the old one I had. -- Keith

I now believe, after reading the link Danil sent (thx!) ...that Gmail does prevent me from getting an email copy of every post I send (unless I Bcc myself). I'm not chatty on the few other forums I subscribe to, so I'd have never guessed. Just like the new car I bought: too darn smart, but I surrender! Through the generous support of https://mailman3.com/ and Danil Smirnov, we have free use of their Mailman 3 server. Tim and I can manage the Mailman settings via the web interface. We do not have OS or shell-level access.

There is a setting that controls this. I don't know if the setting on your account was accidentally changed recently, or for the list server as a whole changed. Postorius (the web interface) is running 1.3.9b1, which appears to be a beta release, so it could be a bug or unintentional setting change. This is the setting: Receive own postings Yes No Ordinarily, you will get a copy of every message you post to the list. If you don't want to receive this copy, set this option to No. If you never created a login account on wlug.mailman3.com, you can find the instructions and links here on our website: http://www.wlug.org/participate.html Mailing List and Web Forum WLUG has a combined mailing list/web forum for general discussion by WLUG members, meeting announcements, ideas for future topics, help and support, etc. Anyone is welcome to join, whether you have come to a meeting or not. I really like Brother printers, especially the laser ones. My last one lasted 14+ years before I replaced it with another Brother printer. I now have an MFC-L2750DW (duplexing, scanning (though NOT duplex scanning with the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) using gscan2pdf, you have to flip them by hand) and it's working out well. Ethernet, wifi, latest PostSCript 4 drivers from Brother, etc. Works well.
